He got so emotional because he knows that this situation of his might very likely cost this team a shot at the BCSNC game in the next two weeks because of the distraction. There is nothing the fans can do or say that would cause him to not take the job. Only UM itself can affect that. He WILL go if offered. They always leave LSU. No one ever goes Billy Donovan for us. Get ready because it's coming. I just hope we don't stumble against ARK or SECCG because of it.

Reading everything and watching this video we can surmise:

1. If Michigan offers now, he takes it if they offer enough money for him and potential assistants. LSU has some of the highest paid assistants in the land and that helps.

or

2. Michigan will not offer to Miles because he will not take it now and give up the chance to coach in the BCS NC

Conclusion: They wait till after the SEC CG. If Miles wins both at Ark. and SEC, he is offered. I can't imagine him leaving without the chance for a NC. If he loses, he is gone and half of the ranters will want him to leave.

We are fickle folks.

I know it can't be avoided, but man....bad timing, just like Les says in the clip.
I heard contempt in his voice when he was talking about Carr picking today to announce.

Miles could let it rest for his team and everyone by taking his name off the UM list. He won't do that.

IMO.........
1) If he's offered.....he's gone.
2) Carr not waiting to retire tells me he does not want Miles to succeed him. He would have waited otherwise.
3) No matter how hard Miles tries, this is/will be a huge distraction for him and the team. This could hurt our chances for the MNC trophy.
4) Under no circumatances if Miles accepts the Michigan job should LSU let him coach the team for whatever part of the season that remains. You are either the LSU head coach or not. Period.
5) Miles is a class act and is in a no win or a win/win position depending on how you look at it.
6) Whether he stays or leaves, LSU will survive. I just hope this ends quickly and we're not having to discuss this week in and week out. Aaargh!

Les is gone! If not he would at least make a video like this COMPLETELY denouncing wanting the Michigan job! Please pay close attention to the video segment that states he is not going to the other team!

LESson learned!

Disagree, and i bet most of the players would disagree as well. He's got us this far and deserves to go the distance.

If it wasn't contempt it was disappointment at the least, almost like bitter irony.

No doubt he is in a tough spot - the apex of profession (conf. and national championship within eyesight) versus the chance to go home (which like winning a BCS NC might be once in a career).

The "timing" comment was the one unrehearsed part of the conference, IMO.

Amen. This team is good enough to win with an interim HC Pelini or Crowton.

I'm glad we still have Skip and Charlie Weems around to pick up the pieces if He goes. They're pretty good at hiring Head Football Coaches.

On an emotional level, I and most of the current players would probably agree with you. However, the reality exists that if Miles accepts the position and remains for, let's say a month, to coach the team in the MNC game he has to tell recruits something. Does he say come to LSU or come with me to Michigan. Emotionally, you're right. Practically, no way. He can't be our coach and Michigan's coach at the same time. If nothing else, it's conflict of interest.

He sounds to me like a man who's heart is being torn in two. He loves Michigan, sure, but it seems he has come to love OUR university as well.

I think he has a tougher decision to make than many of you are giving him credit for. I wish him the best in his decision, and hope it works out either way. Some prayers might be in order. I DO NOT envy the position he is in currently, I do envy the money he's making, though. . .

I really think he was trying to lay out the groundwork for this whole thing today. More or less saying to LSU if you press too hard for a decision, I am gone and saying to Michigan if you press too hard I am going to stay. I feel for him and don't think I would ever want to be in that postion myself

Miles said the best thing he could say and said it eloquently.

We may get a better X's and O's coach in the future but we will be hard pressed to get a better man as coach at LSU.
