Godddammit, y'all! I can't believe this has gone 7 pages and nobody has said ....SAMMY MARTIN!
Dude was littler than Trindon Holliday and almost as fast; it was the same vibe as Holiday or Skylar Green - "let's cheer for the itty-bitty guy, and hope nobody kills him out there!" - a David vs. Goliath thing...maybe 150lbs, w/sand in his pockets....he was balding, looked about 35yrs old, but tough and fast AF. Played wide-out and tailback, and ran back kicks.
Had tickets in the player's comp section one game, and I sat inbetween his parents - they were separated, one or both had dates- it was EXTREMELY awkward; they were jawing back-n-forth and exchanging low-blow insults, etc... finally somebody a row behind us traded seats w/ one of them before they came to blows. Sammy had a kick return TD later.
He has always been my "favorite Tiger who wasn't a big star".
ETA: found a link to some highlights - he caught a TD from both Hodson and Mickey Guidry in this game.
Check out the ending - it's a three-score lead, and the stadium is PACKED and the whole crowd counts off the last seconds and goes wild! (We didn't ALWAYS leave early!
