B. Petrino

uhhh... after that we get into coordinators.

anyone?

Almost any successful mid major coach would come to LSU. Tuberville would jump at it in a heartbeat. I wouldn't be surprised if Butch Davis would take the job either. The point, however, is that you don't have to know for certain who your replacement is going to be.

You fire a coach, or not, based on whether his performance is acceptable under the circumstances, those circumstances being salary, resources available to him, recruiting opportunity, etc. When you decide to fire him, you then look for the best you can find. If you don't find someone better, you made a mistake in identifying the right replacement. Then you try again. Sometimes it takes more than one try, like it did Alabama after Dubose and Nebraska after Solich. Sometimes it doesn't, like with Florida after Zook, Ohio State after Cooper or possibly Arkansas after Nutt. The fact that it might take more than one try to find the right coach doesn't dictate that a school should stick with the wrong one it has now.

We should KNOW who we want and can get b/f letting Les go. Firing him, then hoping for the best available can really set back our program.

No, keeping the wrong coach is always the wrong move.

Terrible example. No way in the world was he anywhere close to the best available.

muschamp would probably come here, he knows the landscape here and SEC in general.
tuberville has coached at most of the SEC west schools so why not
Mike Nolan is interesting, he coached here in the 80's, good defensive guy, not sure he will get another chance in the NFL
Al Golden at temple would be solid, good defense, smash mouth offense, may be next in line at penn state though
greg schiano at rutgers is solid, recruits florida well, is a good developer
someone mentioned eric mangini, i think his time in cleveland is limited and if he gets canned there, he wont be an NFL head coach again, solid defense, young, disciplinarian
rich rod, ferentz, and butch davis are interesting as well. rich rod coached at tulane and i think he would be ok, not sure his offense works in SEC but meyers does so
ferentz and davis have easy jobs, little pressure to win, hard pull

Realistically and definetively (sp) better

1) Gary Patterson

2) Kyle Wittingham

3) Tommy Tubberville

Realistically and probally better

1) Kevin Sumlin

2) Will Muschamp

Maybe and probally better

1) Greg Schiano

I don't factor in NFL coordinators like Nolan or NFL coaches that could possibly be fired like Del Rio or even Jeff Fisher.

Its not a very long list.

I don't understand what's wrong with coordinators. We wanted someone with head coaching experience when Saban left and ended up with Miles.

Mullen, and Muschamp would be my top 2.

Mullen? For Christ's sake...
What the hell has he done to merit a job like LSU?
Pump your brakes a bit.

Tubbs? Really? I wouldn't support that SOB after the 1999 post game cigar smoking antics...
