Let them dig:
All Up In The Recruit Mix
Props to Stewie Griffin for the link.

quote:
In total, the LSU football program paid $103,896.57 for 14 different services in 2009-10, “each of which must fill out and sign a form designed by our compliance office in order to do business with us,” Vincent said.
To put it in perspective, the $103,896.57 sum spent on third-party scouting services in 2009-10 is one-third the salary of LSU recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson. For that, the program gets access to 14 national databases, which provide much more detailed and organized information than one assistant, a beat up Honda Civic, and an infinite supply of 5 Hour Energy could hope to compose in a lifetime of Excel spreadsheets.

Another point is LSU fans were foaming at the mouth for AU dirt. Well, we got it, but we also got a whole other mess along with it.

You're also assuming LSU is amateurs like Oregon. In order for the NCAA to do something, they have to find something. Reading that, what the hell can they hit LSU with? The fact we got fricked by a recruiting service that we cut off immediately after this past year?

Anyone see a disconnect with the headline and the story...
Headline:
Blurb that appears when scrolling over the headline:
That said, unless there's a LOT more money that isn't currently showing up, I don't think LSU is in any danger of paying $6000 for recruiting info, whether it be solid info or crap. $6000 for LSU is equivalent to me paying 9.99 for a Scout membership...I get a lot of crap, but I do occasionally see some decent stuff.

Lyles sold video to LSU with no recruiting value
Blurb that appears when scrolling over the headline:

Some of the video scouting reports purchased by the LSU football program last fall from Willie Lyles contain information that would be of little use during the recruiting process, a review of the reports by "Outside the Lines" has found.

I hope so bud.
LSU may have really covered their tracks well. Most of the time if the NCAA or media dig something is found ... i just hope that's not the case here. Media would love to hit a big SEC school.

Before Auburn, I agree 100%.
I hate having them looking at us, and nothing good can come from it. But it seems like they have backed off from the SEC, surely because of the money it produces.
Also, it doesn't hurt having our ex university prez running the show.

Will Lyles on the field during a game in Tiger Stadium doesn't seem fishy for a scouting service to you? Just playing Devil's Advocate.

Yes, that's my problem with the story. The headline makes an absolute statement, which is completely false. Hell, they reveal it's false in their own damn story.
The true headline would say: After review of LSU's discs, ESPN fins that some of the video is irrelevant to recruiting; however, some is relevant to potential prospects.

It does to me. But again, did LSU get any of those players that were on the sidelines with him?

Really? What did we get?

Landing a recruit is not a necessity for illegal recruiting.

"journalists" probing every major institution in the country. Including LSU.

quote:Exactly! Are we dealing with Lyles under the table - hell yes. Are we as dirty with Lyles as DuckChip - hell no. Is there anything in our case that can be proven other than fiscal mis-management - hell no (see Papa Newton)!
It doesn't seem like the NCAA had found shite with Auburn, and you know damn well how guilty they are.

No, but it creates a very strong link to illegal recruiting.
I agree with your point and think that your thoughts are legitimate. I'm just making a case for why ESPN should not have ran this story the way they did.

Will people quit saying NCAA didn't find shite with Auburn? It took them 5 years with USC ... Auburn is still being investigated. That's a point i'm trying to make btw. NCAA is under no timetable to find dirt once they start digging.

Exactly.

So we got negative publicity. That's really not what you insinuated but okay.

Why is Auburn grouped in with the others? The NCAA dug around their program after one of the most popular "scandals" in history and came away with jackshit.
Like in any other situation, it's not what you know (or in this case, assume), it's what you can prove.
You need to simmer down, because frankly, you don't know what the frick you're talking about.
