I will also add this – if it is third and one and Scott rushes for two yards, that play is an unqualified success. I’m not as concerned about his YPC because of his situational running. Scott is going to have a lower YPC just because of the likelihood he gets the call on plays in which he won’t get many yards but still be a success. I am more concerned about Scott not being able to get holes on 1st and 10.

The holes really aren't there, but yeah... I know what you mean.

I definitely agree with this but how do you propose that 5 guys get better at blocking 8-10 guys?

That's a valid point, but the only way it changes is if those 5 can step up and make Defenses pay for stacking the box. It doesn't have to be for a whole game, but its got to happen. Crowton has not stretched the field, but even if he starts doing that, pass protection MUST happen to allow a deep play to develop.

You attempt a pass every now and then over 15 yards and shorten your release. JJ looks like Byron Leftwich winding up to throw. If nothing else try to get him out on a bootleg or something.

JJ has been making plays for this team with very little help from the o-line

And, as a corollary, if we find ourselves in third and one situations frequently, the offense is succeeding.

Doug Moreau was expressing some concerns about the OL Saturday night. The OL is Les' baby. Maybe their are some communication issues.

Wasn't Miles quoted as saying that this is the best OL he has had since coming to LSU?

In fairness to them, they are practicing against our defense's pass rush.

Yeah, Jordan is getting pressured on nearly every play where he tries to stand in the pocket. It's a problem.

Taking away the 3 sacks and a safety, LSU ran 39 times for 213 yards against Vandy, one of the best defenses in the SEC. That's great.

The O-line does have serious problems at simple 5-on-4 pass blocking, however, and this will continue to be a problem as long as LSU continues to try to pass out of 4-receiver and 5-receiver formations.

Really, I think both tackles have been lackluster at pass blocking so far this season, although it can sometimes be hard to tell who is at fault when somebody completely misses a man on a typical defensive tackle-end twisting stunt.

+1

hopefully the o-line can get better.

it's severely limiting the downfield play calling.

kudos to JJ for avoiding the pressure against VANDY

true, but JJ is going to have to learn more pocket presence by feeling the pressure, and not just start trying to avoid it the instant it looks like he might be in trouble.

Notice how Miles punted on a couple 4th and shorts vs Vandy? I don't think he has the confidence in this squad to go for it. If you can't go for 4th and 1 at home vs Vandy what the hell are you going to do against a Saban front on the road or Ole Miss? Les Mile's is an O line guru I thought? The bottom line is its the weakest part of this football team with the possible exception of the tunces the cat logo. Go back to the old school logo and get a real coach in here quick!

I thought Ciron was supporse to be an All American? But can you blame Miles for assuming this was the best Oline he has ever had when practicing against our Dline.

Jefferson hasn't thrown an int yet, he takes his time to find an open WR. Maybe the fact that he is too careful means he is taking a little more time to throw the ball? I think the OLine can get better, but they aren't exactly what i would call horrible. 4.6 ypc and only giving up 4 sacks in two games isn't that bad. Besides we have a couple new faces in there and barksdale is a 2 year starter. Washington has the best DE in the PAC-10 in Daniel Te'o Nesheim and Vandy's DLine isn't horrible. We all know that they could do better but like i said they haven't been all that bad so far. We will find out when we play UGA just how "bad" they are.

Imo, it looks like Barksdale is having trouble with his footwork on pass blocking.

But to the O-line's credit on the pass blocking, Jefferson does not have a great feel for the pocket yet, when to step up, where the pressure is coming from, etc. It will come though. The great thing about Jefferson is that no matter what happens he stays pretty calm. He'll throw it away when he needs to, and he's got the ability to tuck it and gain positive yards.
