Jason,
Let me know where you guys plan on setting up. I am also bringing all my tailgate stuff and will be hauling a trailer.

I'll be at The Swamp (the bar) before I go across the street to The Swamp (the stadium).

Parking: get ready to pay $20-40 in cash to park in a yard... northside of stadium on the opposite side of University Ave. from the stadium is the best stretch of neighborhood to do that... just drive off a side street off University and you'll find something that is about a quarter mile walk from the stadium.
Tailgating: there are certain lots in same area that are good... a big parking on University Ave. across from the big campus library is where I would try to get in first.
Drinking: I haven't had any bad experiences with the five-Os yet as long as you're not walking all around campus and it's blatant... if you hang around your tailgate spot they usually won't frick with you because there will be hundreds of others doing the same thing. Just know that when you go mobile that you need to conceal it in a Styrofoam cup of something...assholes got me this past Saturday walking down the road and made me poor a fresh beer out on the curb.
Weather: Not sure if fall is starting to settle in in Louisiana yet (I hear it is), but it is likely going to be pretty warm here still... my Ole Miss buddies that were in town last weekend got sunburned like a mofo Saturday... it was sweltering heat (of course at 7 o'clock the sun will be down).

Derby,
What about dropping off a tailgate trailer on Friday night at a tailgate spot, where would you suggest?

man, you should be able to do it but the tricky part is that you may have to find a private yard/lot to pay off the owner to do so... the lot that I mention across from the library doesn't open until the morning of the game...they keep it chained off until then when they have someone available to take $$
my advice would be to drive down Newberry/University from I-75 heading toward campus and when you start getting on campus (stadium will be up on your right) just start looking off to the left hand side of University at open lots/yards, etc. to see if anyone is renting space... I would bet there will be with the magnitude of this game. You'll find somewhere to get in... I have some buddies coming in on an RV and that's what we're going to do.

Thanks Derby. So it's better to just get there early on Saturday morning, what time would u suggest to get a good spot?
Posted on 10/1/08 at 9:47 am to BIGC
Saturday morning would be your best bet. I think the people that own that lot I referenced across from the library get there around 10 most games and they take cash for a spot... I think it's around $100 (was last year).
To be safe and to get the best shot at a good location, we're going to scout it out Friday evening and try to find something in that area I mentioned... if we can't find anything then we're coming back first thing Saturday morning to try and get something locked up in time to be able to get set up before College GameDay comes on at 10.
The stretch of University Ave. that you have to work with (left hand side, opposite of the college) is about 3 or so miles...so you should be able to find a prime tailgating spot in that stretch without too big a problem.

Derby, so the way you are putting it all on campus parking is reserved??

We plan on starting before 10 so i guess my best bet is to find a spot off University for my vehicle and the trailer and we can tailgate there as well right?

honestly, I don't think there is a lot of public parking if any at all from what I have seen... unlike Tiger Stadium where you can park by the levee or way down in a field and walk up, UF is in an urban area close to downtown and the stadium itself is in the middle of campus and the only campus lots around are members-only lots.
I've been going to games there for a few years now and everyone I know that goes just understands that you will pay for parking in someone's yard, etc.

Can we setup a big tailgate in these spots off University or are they all just straight up parking.

The lot I referenced (across from the big campus library) is a big concrete foundation plot of land that used to be a Burger King before they tore it down a few years ago... it is wide open and you can get a trailor/RV in there...there will be many in there
