Not long after the Tigers won the National Championship my father took me ( I guess I was about 10 years old ) and Francis Payne - a former Tulane All American took his son to the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport. I remember vividly sitting there and seeing Billy Cannon and the whole Dietzel team on Stage in Coats and Ties. wow- what a memory

There were only like 6 guys on the team that were bigger or heavier, but he ran a 9.3 100 yard dash and was strong as a bull.
