Who is the boss & who is the assistant?
Apparently, the "boss" sold the assistant on having autonomy when he was hired. FTR, I have no idea what the nature of their discussion/agreement was. But if so, you don't see why reneging on the deal would introduce tension into the staff?
Also, FTR, I don't think Canada's prior run-in's were unknown to Ed when he was hired. That's more of the reason why I think LSU appealed to Canada, i.e., he was going have more say than he did at his previous stops.

Whether Canada stays or goes Alleva created a long term instability problem by botching the coaching search. He low-balled Herman and knee-jerk instantly hired interim O on the rebound in the middle of the night instead of leaving him as Interim and conducting a real search. The dysfunctional mess cannot be cleaned up as 21 million dollars is now tied up in buyout money for Miles and O. Alleva has failed too many times.
You can never "bury the hatchet": Can you imagine Saban's AD calling Saban, Kiffin, and Smart into his office and telling them "You have to get along or you are going to get me fired"? That is what happened here. That is what the recruits see and it is a long way from stable. It is a long, wrong way from beating the Process Saban, Herman, Sweeney, Smart, Meyer, Patterson, Mullen, dozens more, etc. have in place.
Kiffin turned down LSU because he would never step down to work under O. He would only have come here as the HC. "I got to spend three years with the best coach in college football in Nick Saban." Now at FAU he is the happiest he has ever been and he has transformed his team into a Top 10 Scoring Offense avg 40 pts and 48 pts in Conference.
If Aranda was indispensable, WISC would not have beaten LSU last year and be top 4 this year. The same goes for Canada. The small point is the Coaching Staff has to be working in harmony "One team, One Heartbeat". The large point is you have to have a visionary empire builder as the HC. When you look in the Alabama Press Box you see more than a dozen "Coaching Staff" with headsets. Saban is underpaid at 11 million and his contract is good through 2025. Smart just recruited the top DTQB in the nation. Malzahn and Mullen - well winning Coaching/QBs/Offensive Identities are in place in the SEC.
The arms race has shifted to huge Coaching Support Staffs and LSU cannot get the basics in place.
Saban actually goes over all the top 44 players biometric data to ensure the safety of each player and to make sure that his team is building momentum for a 15 game season and peaking during the championship.
LSU is arguing over how they got beat by Troy.

All he did was ask for less shifts and motions. And tbey still should have beaten Troy.

This reminded me of something that occurred to me last Saturday. Alabama played Mercer which was not much more than a controlled scrimmage. This allowed his regulars to only play about half a game which promotes rest and reduces chance of injury. Of course, this is by design from Saban and their AD. I realize you can't take these games away from the FCS schools because they go a long way to support their football programs. But FBS schools should not be allowed to play these teams after Week 4 or 5.
