IMHO FWIW, I don't find this acceptable with any major college football program...

Wow.

Sorry to all of you fans that couldn't get a ticket that would have actually stayed, cuz that's pretty pathetic.

The biggest problem with the LSU football program right now by far is the fanbase

I thought the biggest problem was shitty coaching, my bad.

I was at the game, and yeah it was COLD!! But, guys this is football. People left because it was cold, please, tell that to the folks up in Green Bay will ya. I stayed the entire game because I, unlike some of you lucky guys, only get to a game or so every year, and never one of the high profile games. Plus, I love LSU football. Hell, I would have stayed if the final was 31-3. Wouldn't have liked it, but I would have stayed.

Now, with that pat on my own back stated, here is why I think a lot of people left. The same reason they boo Lee (now that really pissed me off). No class, bandwagon fans. That's it. Travel around the country, LSU has become a well-known and for the most part well like team. Many who give all that money to TAF and get these tickets aren't really diehard fans, they are the "look at me I'm cool, I tailgate and go to LSU games" fans. And, it's cool and fun to go to the Ga and Bama games, but not to the 'easy' wins like Troy and Tulane. Ain't staying for that crap game.

Anyway, that's my take on it. Of course it is a free country and folks can do what they want, but don't gripe when top recruits don't want to come because of this "problem".

BTW, I think the team got all fired up last night because of the few fans that stayed were louder than a stadium nearly full of the 'cool dudes' and really got behind their team.

I left at half time. Not because we were getting our arse beat. I stayed in the Swamp the entire game. I could not put up with the fricking weather. It was too cold to stay and listen to JL get booed. I literally ran back to my dorm.

someone show me a program whose fans would not have left in the throws of an arse-kicking by a ridiculously inferior opponent? especially when the team has given absolutely no inkling of mounting anything like a comeback to that point.

the earlier assertion that the fanbase is what's wrong w/ this football team is just completely wrong. the team played best when there was almost no one around, leading me to believe (hold onto your hats) a bunch of 18-22 year olds are playing for each other and not for the fanbase, no matter how much we wish it was otherwise.

Unfortunatley the majority of our fanbase has always been like this. They cannot wait for any excuse to leave the stadium. Winning or losing, no matter what. If there's the slightest discomfort from either the score, the weather or whatever they have always been antsy to get the hell out of Tiger Stadium. It is truely the strangest group of sports fans anywhere in the country. I think it's the culture. They have always been about the partys. They are more loyal to their food, booze and pre-game and apparently post game festivities than they are the team and the game itself. Truly odd and embarrasing to say the least.

BINGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!! you're our grand prize winner today 'otowntiger'. just happened to make the florida game yesterday after an unplanned stop in g'ville. the place made our fans look pathetic. sell you tickets and stay home, folks !

that effort for the first 3 quarters didn't deserve any fan support. say what you want about coaching but last night (at least for three quarters) was a complete lack of effort.

I remember the people on side of me for the Georgia game left right after haft time because they claimed "there is no way they come back" at that time it was clearly in reach.. We just have idiot fans who dont know the game.

And the problem is...?

Maybe that's what makes LSU better than most places. Fans go to enjoy each other with friends and family. It's a shame some people take a game played by 18-year-olds so seriously.

I mean, last year I sat on the couch up here in the cold north and watched my alma mater win a national championship. Pretty cool. But it didn't make up for the fact that I couldn't go tailgate with my friends and family like I used to, or enjoy the 99.9 percent of kind-hearted, friendly people on campus who love their school and their state.

As a lifelong, die-hard LSU fan, I am embarrassed of our fanbase. As much as I hate those idiot Bamer fans, they go to the games and stay till the end. A "LOYAL" fan will stay till the end in support of the team. I sat through the monsoon that occured before and during the Fresno St game 2 years ago because I am not a fair-weathered fan, I am a "LOYAL" fan. I sat through the 20 degree Indy Bowl in '95 because that is what "LOYAL" fans do. "LOYAL" fans don't let weather or a bad game deter them, they stay because they love their Tigers!
To the "LOYAL" Tiger fans
To the fair-weather, bandwagon fans

The fan base has changed. My wife and I and our families have had season tickets since the 40's. The fan base then was everyman, doctor, janitor, indian chief. Now with Tradition fund fees going up and up a lot of tickets are being bought by business owners to use as perks for business associates and customers. Most of these are not true fans, they go because the ticket was free or it is a big game.
I have been in the same seats for 30 years. Years ago it was always the same people around you. You got to know them. Now there are very few around me who were there last year or even game to game. I stay until the last whistle blows but I see more and more tend to leave early no matter what is happening on the field.
Today paper listed last nights attendance at 92+thousand, no way. At the final whistle I drought there were more than 30 thousand, Those are the true fans.

It has a lot to do with the NO SMOKING policy adopted last year.
