The truth hurts sometimes and I would hate to see him go but he dowsn't look settled in Tuscaloosa at all to me. That is just what I see.
I think our fans can tolerate losing as long as we are competitive and he will always be competitive.
I just think that he has nothing to prove in college. He could go to Penn State tomorrow and in 3 or 4 years they would win the NC because he has perfected that process whatever it is.
His system may not work in the NFL and he may know that but I doubt it. Most people like Saban never think that it is them they think it was something else around them that was not perfect but not them. I think he bolts for the NFL one day.
That being said, and you may laugh at me, but I think Tommy Tubberville would be a great NFL coach.

How is Miles a bad football coach?
He's not
He's just set in his ways

He knows how to motivate college kids, he's just got to figure out how to motivate millionaires.

The Alabama game has probably been Miles best coaching job the last 2 years. We are a QB and OC away from being a top 3-5 type team.

Scoop,
being the deep thinker and football analyst that you are, you should read Saban~s book - Good as you want to be - which is mainly about how he led LSU to the NC in 2003. He clearly laid out his system for success and I could see that system unfold clearly the last 2 years at Al.
His system works for college kids but does not work for prima donna professionals. But I would love to see Saban leave for the pros again.

I almost bought his book the other day. I think I may go and get it. Do you think it can be applied to a competitive work environment?

I know Saban's wife isn't happy in Tuscaloosa at all. Not that that would be a deciding factor to stay or go, but it would certainly play a role.
I can't see him going back to the NFL. I agree that the competitive part of him would want to go back and prove that he can win at the highest possible level, but I think he truly enjoys (and is much better at) teaching and growing young players and making them the best they can, versus managing a bunch of millionaires that think they have nothing left to learn.

I got mine from Amazon.com for about $4 a copy , in the original version with him wearing LSU colors.
Yes - there are many very good lessons in life in his book and I highly recommend it. I even bought copies for my 2 kids.

Saban could leave for the NFL, come back to any school (say Baylor) and have them competeing for an MNC in a couple of years because his product sells.
If Miles left to go just about anywhere else he would improve that program but probably not be competing for MNC. His product doesn't sell as well without a big name school endorsing it.

Miles is a good head coach, but just not a great one. Saban is a great coach and doesn't completely rely on his assistants the way Miles does.
Miles had a defense and team last year that while not as good as the 2003 and 2005-2007 defense, was enough to get this team to an SEC title with any type of average offensive production.
Fact was that our offense sucked and the defense was hosed.
When we had horrible DC and inadequate offense (i.e. Crowton and Studs), Miles weaknesses showed.
Miles is a good coach, but just delegates way too much. Saban won't delegate anything and can bring a defense to carry the team. Miles on his own can't bring that to either side of the ball.
Still, despite my disdain for him and his contract, he is definitely a good coach who just has some flaws.

Well that is what I needed to know because sometimes at night when we close, me and the other guys have a competition to see who can bring in the most buggies in a certain amount of time. (The quicker we clear the lot, the faster we get to go home)
I always seem to leave a little in the tank and I think it is due to lack of motivation. I know I can get more buggies but I don't push myself.
I am going to read this book.

most people dont like LM because he "talks funny"
this is so true.
perception is reality and the media perceives him as a quack. Although, i wonder sometimes what kind of superbowl winning coach the people of baton rouge think they can get to stay here. Baton Rouge is far from a paradise. There is another thread about coach mcclendon and i read in there several times that people wanted him gone, "help mac pack" was the words. But what they didn't realize is the next 10 years or so, lsu would be much much worse and they wish they would have never wanted him gone.
Miles is a great coach, and sometimes what we think is obvious is really over are head and not on a need to know basis. The fact is, we did more then enough to win and when your d and special teams play lights out throwing the football with a somewhat uncomfortable qb is just a bad idea and bad COACHING. He has learned from his mistakes i believe, and does more then enough to win.
Everyone wants to open up the air raid attack, but that is not the formula for winning games. Everybody knows this, but they need to be patient. Defense, special teams and a balanced offense wins more times then not.
It's coming and if lsu ever gets behind i know he will do everything he can to win the game.

I'm not a Saban fan, but he doesn't suffer from similar decision-making...that I can recall, at least.
