I don't think LSU/Florida were given a choice.
You guys act like the SEC makes rules and the schools follow along. What do you think the SEC is? Any major changes in the SEC are voted on by the AD's or other school representatives. It's not like Roy Kramer and Mark Womack got together and decided who the permanent opponents would be, then told the schools how it was gonna be. Before anyone says I have no idea what I'm talking about, my wife worked at the conference office for 12 years.

It hurts us as far as winning the west. It helps us as far as winning the BCS. I'm willing to give up a few western division crowns to win an occasional BCS championship.

Here's my take:
Bama/Tenn and AU/Ga yearly rivalry games, gotta keep those. $$
Ole Miss/MSU/Kentucky/Vandy/USC/Ark are usually the bottom 50% of the league, so makes sense to pair those guys up. Leaves LSU/Florida. Really, I don't think it is fair for either team. That game is a burner and beats the players up. Barry Switzer used to only play 2-3 really tough games a year on purpose. He believed that was all your team had in them each year. Look at LSU's losses in 2007, came after wins against quality teams then they lose to Kentucky and Ark. Think about it.
Just my two cents worth.

We've been playing these clowns every year since I was in grade school...before they were good...before Emmitt and before SS. And while I can't stand their fan base, they've been one helluva program these past 20 years. I'll bet the squeamish among the Gator Nation are whining about us as an opponent as well.
Bring it...UF-LSU is a GREAT game every year. To be the best you gotta beat the best. (We did that in 2007)

I understand the arguments in favor and I don't disagree -- I kind of see it both ways and it is not going to change so you might as well love it.
In fact another benefit to playing FLA during the season is that it can help to keep THEM out of the SECCG... beat them during the regular season (in Tiger Stadium every other year) and you might not have to play them on a neutral site to advance to the BCSCG.
