I’m scared to say something negative about not keeping Corey Raymond and have the Brian Kelly dick sucking army after me.

90% of LSU players leaving early dont need to. They usually go as undrafted free agents.
Most of our guys who leave early get drafted and get drafted high. But there have been a number of guys who have left early who haven't been drafted or went late. Flott had a good year, but I don't think it was skip the bowl and head to the NFL good. Same for TDP. Though both guys were big in helping LSU win some games this year.

Flott is not nearly ready to try pro ball. It must be grades.

No man this doesn’t happen. Get the hell out with this. The NCAA keeps it regulated.

I really liked his game. He was thrown to the wolves as a freshman and responded well. Good luck to this young man.

Sadly, we will never here the name Cordell Flott again

What does Coach O have to do with Flott leaving? Let’s hope Coach Kelly can do what Coach O did. Win a freaking National championship!!

I think he means that 90% of them don't need to go pro. Just because you don't go undrafted doesn't mean that you need to go pro. You could come back for a year and go pro the next year and be in the top 2 rounds. If a player has the option of going pro after his junior year and will be a 6th round pick, but could be a 2nd round pick if he came back, I'd say it'd be better for him to come back to school. That player would fall under the 90% that shouldn't go pro.
That’s all fine and good, but 64% of LSU’s early entrants since 2010 have gone in the first 3 rounds.
Further, there aren’t a lot of examples of guys who left early that would have been significantly better off with another year. Most of the late-round early entrants fall into one of a few categories:
- Players who had to leave the team due to disciplinary issues (drug policy, off the field stuff, etc.)
- Players who had suffered multiple injuries and were worried one more CFB injury might prevent them from ever going pro.
- Players who were actually projected higher but dropped off after the combine either due to bad interviews or bad performances.
Looking at the 9 guys that left early and wound up undrafted, 2 of them left early because of disciplinary issues. Of the other 7, only 1 (Anthony Johnson) made it more than 2 years on an active NFL roster.
What about the 2 guys that went in the 7th round? 1 never made a 52-man roster. The other was on an active roster for 2 years then went to the practice squad. The lone 6th round pick was Spencer Ware, who had a decent (albeit injury-plagued) NFL career.
The point is that the guys who are leaving early and getting drafted in the 6th/7th round, or going UDFA, are not really proving to be better players in the long run than their draft position would suggest. I would argue that most of these guys have already hit their ceiling, so it often makes sense for them to go pro and try to earn something rather than waiting and potentially losing whatever draft stock they have. It sucks as a fan but I can see why a player would make that decision.
(I don’t think that applies to Flott specifically. I also don’t think Flott goes late/UDFA.)

There is plenty of room for him to improve his stock
this, all day long, plus preseason recognition, bigger role, just being a better player after another year of perfecting his craft
he will cost himself likely millions by not coming back
and not every 4th round draft pick makes it to a second contract (not every 1st round pick for that matter), that's why the guarantee on the first one is so important
