Russell Shepard made UT look like a bitch, he single handedly outrecruited Mack

FWIW, I think we are moving more toward a situation where the huge schools will all offer non-BCS schools a chance to play a "home game" in the other team's home state. It's good for both sides as far as visibility, money, and recruiting goes.
Just as a hypothetical, how would you feel if LSU played a "home game" against Florida International at Dolphin Stadium? Even if we shared the pot, it couldn't hurt recruiting.

It sounds reasonable to me Chicken. UT and TAMU both go to ridiculous lengths to lessen LSU's recruiting in Texas. Even the contract with TAMU being terminated was, no matter what some LSU "insiders" say was partly TAMU's decision as well as LSU's. Ever wonder why there was never any serious talk about renewing the series or getting a series with UT? All about recruiting my man.
I think Tulane's day is over. At the end of the current contract I think LSU should drop them. They do nothing but put a trap game on the schedule and suck revenue from LSU and keep us from getting a quality ooc opponent for home and home.

I hope that LSU extends the deal that they have with Tulane. I don't know the exact financial details of the contract, but I would wager that playing a home and home with Tulane results in more revenue than paying two schools for one-time trips to Tiger Stadium, especially with the escalating rate of such games. Remember, we get a huge share of ticket revenue from games at Tulane. It's not the typical, you make money at your place and I'll make money at my place deal. We make money at BOTH places.
But even more than that, it is fun for LSU to play Tulane every year. It's good for us, good for them, and good for the state of intercollegiate athletics in the state of Louisiana.

I hope I live a long time before we play an away game in Houston. There's simply no reason for LSU to play @ Houston or @ Rice. IF (and a big "IF" at that) aTm makes some sort of resurgence, that's a team we could play that is loosely in the Houston area.

I, for one, am glad that Texass fears the Hat. We have a damn strong football team. Texass fears LSU because we have done more this decade and they have a coach that, other than 2005, just can't win the "big game" each year. We have a pair of balls, and they have one. We have surpassed them in recruiting and as a program.
As far as doing anything with Toolame, not even worth our trouble. Let 'em play whoever.

Assuming we implement that policy with tulane ,what is tulane going to lose for not playing LSU except for an extra 'L' on their team record

Don't you know that Skip (money) Bertman set up toolame so that all decks are stacked to keep their pitiful football program going? Forget about limiting them, or anything else which changes the 10-year agreement. Skip took real good care of his pet university. They may change their mascot from the green weenies to the Skippers!! That's how much they owe him.

LSU used to open every season by playing TaM and Rice. I personally think that we should play TaM in Houston for the Sabine River Bayou Bowl -- 50% seats LSU - 50%seats TaM. Also a home and home with Rice would be great for SE Texas recruting.

The argument that this game somehow makes or breaks the Tulane athletic department or football team is laughable.
600k is probably on the high end of a rent-a-win status team, but I'm sure Tulane could get that from others if they desired. That figure is likely 3% or less the athletic budget for Tulane.
LSU has almost no leverage in attempting to dictate who comes to play Tulane in New Orleans. If LSU doesn't like the fact that other SEC schools are coming to New Orleans, too bad.
The issue here is that financially this game has more impact for LSU -- LSU has an athletics budget that must be fed by a minimum of 7 home games. Without that monetary limitation, LSU would be free to do more than 1 home/home series with other opponents. Or even better, schedule a home and home with an opponent opposite the Tulane game.
I think this deal should continue. I think its a positive for both schools and happy to see at least some LSU fans feel the same way. With that said, if LSU were to demand moving all the games to BR or offer a 2 for 1...I would advise Tulane to not only turn it down, but demand LSU to buyout the remainder of the 10 year deal.
Here's a quote from the TP in November of 2008:
"The deal gives Tulane a $600,000 guarantee for games at Tiger Stadium, including its 7,000-seat allotment. For games at the Superdome, LSU gets 40,000 tickets to sell at $40 apiece, a potential $1.6 million payday.
Dickson now says, "this is not a make-or-break deal for us financially," adding that he has received offers from other BCS conference schools for home-and-home series but does not want to overload future schedules with such games."

Since when should we be concerned about toolame's welfare? We make more money when we play other teams at home, cause very few people look forward to playing that trash, and we never fill the stadium, neither Sige rSatdium or the stupid dome. So, why play them except skip wants to keep their football program going!!You should all wake up and see what is going on here - Skip's kid goes to toolame.

B.S. - toolame needs this game a lot more than we do.

Makes sense - better attendance at TS. Why not play all games there, or better yet, why play them at all?? (Al, hope you are reading this!)

Of course, I live in Houston, so I am a little biased, but I am all for LSU playing either Rice, Houston or Tx A&M at Reliant. There would probably be more LSU fans at Reliant stadium than the Dome for a game against Tulane. This could become the I-10 Rivalry, & a nice weekend getaway for Tiger fans from La.

Fun for who? This isn't 1955. It's a pitiful matchup and boring for even the most avid Tiger fans (under 50). For some reason, maybe b/c of Rice's success in baseball, playing Rice seems a lot more interesting. All this balogny about keeping the money in state, why should we have to pay Tulane a welfare check?

chicken nobody goes to or watches tulane games anyway, so i don't think it really matters from a recruiting standpoint. it's not like local kids are flocking to the dome to watch tulane play whichever SEC team is in town
