The solution is the player has to sit out the remainder of the drive.
Perfect solution in every respect.
The thing is, when is the NCAA going to do something about this?
It's clearly a dishonest and unsportsmanlike practice that certain coaches are employing more and more.

There are obvious repeat offenders. Make the refs aware and if they see it, call it. Use replay.

Problem is that someone like Kiffen will just sub in a walkon quickly and get that guy to drop down.

Id make them sit out 10 minutes of actual game time. Gotta make sure they are ok anyway

And teams would exploit that player when he's in.

Because QBs often get knocked down and don’t get up right away. If you are leaving this up to the refs to decide when a player is “injured enough” to have to stop play, that could get crazy. What if your QB gets knocked down on the first play of a drive and the ref decides “he didn’t get up quick enough for me. I better stop the clock”? Well now under your solution, your QB can’t come back after one play. No, you now have to “finish the drive” with your backup QB.
I don’t think too many QBs fake injuries to gain an advantage over the defense. In reality the fake injuries are only occurring on defense, so the rule could apply to defensive injuries only.

Conference reviews films after the game, can fine head coach and university with escalating fines for multiple infractions. Of course Alabama will be exempt
