I've seen people get fired for simply being arrested.
That's how at-will employment works.
Sounds like a sizable damages lawsuit if you fire someone for being arrested any they are later proven guilty.
If you suspend, you better make sure they get full rights, pay, and benefits.

Again, you don't seem to understand how at-will employment works.
It basically means that your boss can fire you for any reason he sees fit. Or even no reason at all.
By the same token, you're free to terminate your employment at any time, for any reason YOU see fit, or even no reason at all.
It has absolutely nothing to do with rights. There's no right to employment.

Wow I wouldn't be signing a contract for employment like that.
But sure, if you're dumb enough to accept employment where you also sign your letter of resignation to be dated by your boss at a later convenient time, you deserve to be fired for not flushing after taking a piss.

I think the idea is that -- while one has certain rights as a US citizen -- no one has the "right" to be a scholarship football player at a major university.
This.

Have you ever held a job in the private sector?
Because if so, you've already signed on for employment like that. You just weren't aware of it.

Not sure if you're being willfully or unknowingly obtuse here.
Once again...you have no specific right to employment.

Coach Miles doesn't owe anyone an explanation.
Feliciana, I disagree with this. There is no excuse for not explaining the truth. Explain why the public need not know why the two were suspended if you can.

Most times when people explain their actions it is because they seek approval. Coach Miles doesnt need the approval of a few.

It isn't about approval, it is about the truth. If he does not seek approval, as you say, then why not explain the decision unless the truth reflects poorly on CLM?

I'd love to debate this with you but I really don't understand what there is to explain or why you feel you deserve an explanation
