an amp
You don't really need an amp. The lighter the ice chest the better so any way to cut down on weight is good. My buddy and I made one a few weeks ago. Used an old ice chest, cheap car radio, battery and speakers from WalMart. This simple setup is plenty loud. A few recommendations would be to get a radio with an iPod input and put an on/off toggle switch to shut everything down so your battery doesn't run down.

Another tip is to install a solar panel to the top of the ice chest so it can charge the battery and last longer while using it outside.

All you need is a car stereo, motorcycle battery, some 6.5"s, fiberglass, your imagination, and some spare time. Its pretty loud for what it is and did a great job before we got a PA system.
