because i dont think your kid will ever see $4 million in his lifetime?

guttata, I think this is a major flaw in peoples argument. The minor league system (single A, and Double A) are not that much different (talent wise) that playing college baseball in a major conference like the SEC, ACC, or the PAC-10.
Like someone said earlier, A LOT of times it has to do with being mentally prepared for spending time on the road with people way older than you and more mature. Your asking a lot from a 17 or 18 year old to go from high school to that....someone made a josh booty reference earlier. I know hi and his family and can tell you first hand, they wish he would have played college first, then gone to the pro's. Its all about being mentally prepared. Some kids are, and some are not.

No....because you're actually stupid enough to pretend to know the earning potential of a perfect stanger when you have absolutely no clue of who he is or his athletic ability.
But keep proving my point for me....you're doing great!

This is completely wrong. AA is where the bulk of top prospects are. (Majority of prospects stay in AAA for a short time or skip it altogether). Then speaking about A ball, there is high A, low A, and short season rookie ball. Virtually all recently drafted prospects go to short season rookie ball. If any level is equivalent to playing baseball in a major conference it would be rookie ball. A good chuck of players don't even make it out of rookie ball.
So, you tell me how major conference college baseball is equivalent to A and AA ball when
1. Not all major conference players are drafted (this number isn't even around 100%)
2. These players are sent to rookie ball after being drafted
3. 50% or more players never make it out of rookie ball

Hypothetically speaking of course, but if I had MLB talent out of high school and was drafted in the first round I'd had still went to LSU... Pitching in Alex Box with my family watching is worth more to me than money

$100 says your kid(s) won't even be able to walk on at Louisiana College let alone ever be offered $4 million.

Although I must admit wondering why he turned down 4+ mil to play just baseball at TCU.
ESPN said yesterday the Rangers were broke and couldn't afford to spend 4 mil on him.

and that still won't help your kids become a decent athlete

Yesterday's ESPN telecast said that the his "mentor" and the Rangers couldn't come to terms on a contract. The Rangers are in financial woes.

Great for Mr. Purke, however, I question the intelligence of anyone that turns down $4 million so they can pitch against college talent.
His dad got way too greedy, $3 mil was the original goal

I believe $7 million was his original asking price. The rangers and him were close to a deal at $6 million, then MLB took over the rangers and offered $4 million. The kid's pride was hurt and he thought he'd show MLB by actually going to college. As far as I'm concerned, his pride will cost him $$$. He, more than likely, isn't going to be drafted quite as high 3 yrs from now.

Correct. But it would let the world know a complete dumbass when they see it by the easily identifiable marking on your giant fricking forehead.
