Missing the field goal changes Bama's last drive. Once Bama got into field goal range, it really opened the playbook up for them. They had the tie to fall back on. I don't think they score if we're up 6.

The Warecat call was the bad one. Ware gets in the huddle late, Ford doesn't even know the play so the defense can write him off, and the line doesn't fire off the ball because the play is rushed in.

Running Hill or a hard play action fake would have been much better calls.

No way to know that BAMA would drive 73 yds on our defense with less than 2 mins

Too bad we didn't have some first half data on this. Wait.

Good god Bruh. With the way our defense was playing in the second half( Bama had 49 yards of offense), NO COACH IN CFB THROWS THAT BALL. pick six and you're the dumbest coach on the planet.

Rick...Disagree with you. You're actually in a throwing situation at that point to get the 1st. And again, if you get it, ball game!

Lets say Mett throws a pick 6 there. Unlikely with the way he was playing. Lets say he does though. Miles can so cover for that in his presser. It would go something like this, "We felt we had them on their heels. Our QB was playing a great 2nd half and we knew a first down would essentially end the game. Unfortunately it didn't work out for us." Miles now has my respect and is not the "dumbest coach in America". He's a guy that had some balls, had trust in his team, and went for the win. Respect.

warecat should have been run out of shotgun--better line push that way. I agree with posters--play was sent in late and we looked confused. Alleman has apparently lost it,and Les may not trust his ability anymore. But, the biggest issue I have with the whole thing is the prevent defense played at the end of the first half, and at the end of the game. Both resulted in TDs, and prevented nothing. Our defense was so dominant in the 2nd half, there should have been no changes. Can't Les buzz up to the Chief, and say-Hey, maybe we need to rethink this? The Tigers played hard, outplayed the Tide, and deserved to win--but didnt. I am PROUD of them!!

bullshite! If Mett had thrown the ball resulting in a pick 6, I guarantee this board would be reaming Miles for throwing in that situation and calling for his head ... pretty much like the Miles-haters are doing now.

Not true. No coach throws that ball and stops the clock. None.

Exactly what I was saying at the time. Everyone around us was saying throw for the first and then kneel on the ball if we make it or attempt a fg if we miss. That was my biggest beef of the entire game

If you think the WINNINGEST COACH IN SEC HISTORY( minimum 100 games coached) is a retard , IT'S YOU that is a dumb arse. Come on. Our defense held Bama's off to 49 yards of offense. You run the ball and kick the fg , making the offense( the offense that our def had shut down) score 7 to win.

What about chavis' prevent defense?

I still stand by my feeling on this, with everything Les attempted to do in this game good or bad, I believe what changed the game and eventually cost us the game is the Dumb arse penalty by Copeland and jumping into the prevent D on both the 2 minute drives by Bama. The Copeland penalty, IMO, cost us a TD and until the last drive of the second half, AJ Maccrybaby was a dismal 1 of 7 for 0 yards and we let him off the hook by jumping into the prevent us from winning Defence. Plain and simple.

You're never going to convince everyone that it was the right or wrong call; running the ball to bleed an extra minute versus throwing the ball for a possible first down is something that could be debated about every weekend by at least one team. It's just a coaching philosophy. One that many coaches have.

Edit: Not saying you're wrong for wanting to throw the ball, it's obviously the better decision in this situation given hindsight. There's just little use starting argument on it. And FWIW I would not have called a run, I just take little to no issue with it.
That's where I am on it too. I think it's debatable either way.

It wasn't a bad call because you had to run the clock there. You didn't have to run the ball, though. I would have liked to see Mett in the shotgun with Hill back there with him. Run a safe pass play there.. like a screen to Hill.. who's shown to be a great screen play back. You know Saban was going to bring some heat on that 3rd and long. That gives you a better chance of picking up the 1st while still running the clock if he doesn't pick it up.

It's been discussed, but whatever. This is the rant. That call is haunting me and others as well. How can you say "hindsight is 20/20" or that "it was the right call"? No, it's not. There is only one correct call, which is go for the jugular, get the first down and get the hell out of Tiger Stadium with a win. Which, would be to throw the ball in that situation. First down, GAME OVER! And don't give me this "well if it was incomplete it would have stopped the clock and you would have been pissed". Would not have been. If the intent is to win the game and go for the knock out blow, you can't fault Miles or any coach, if in that situation, he goes for the jugular. I have no problem with that all. And it's been said many times...Mett was hot, Bama was on their heels, our receivers were on fire! Arhhg, so frustrating! Hell, and this another discussion, but its arguable to even go for it on 4th down. It's simple guys, an analogy...Favre, Brees, Manning, etc is having a horrible half, would you want to give any of those guys the ball back, despite a horrible half, with plenty of time left on the clock? Do you want to give the #1 team in the Country the ball back? Hell no. And no, I'm not comparing Maccaron to any of those guys. But he's a capable guy and he proved it. Sure as hell didn't show it the whole half (I realize that), but showed it when it mattered. Now, did I like our "D's" chances in that situation after the missed FG? Absolutely. Did I think that they would drive with such ease on us and score? No, not really. But, there is always that chance and I know it was a possibility. And, they lived up to that chance. They're the #1 team in the Country for a reason. And you know Bama was thinking TD the whole time. You think Saban was thinking 3 to tie the game? Hell no. It was 6 all the way. They went for the jugular and got it. Miles is going to "gamble" on a fake fg, an on side kick, etc. But in the situation it matters the most, he doesn't. Doesn't take that chance. What the hell?! And here's the thing, it's not even a "gamble"! That situation is not a "gamble" situation. Not when your offense has been playing the way they were playing and a 1st down ends that game. Miles makes a boat load of money, and with that comes decisions like this one. This is why he gets paid top dollar. To make those types of calls in those types of situations, and he simply made the wrong call. Not acceptable. Not when you make over $3 million a year. It's not "hindsight is 20/20". Hell, people on TD who make $8.50 an hour know it was the wrong call. Sum it up, we get that first down we're talking about the Title Game. No first down and now we're talking about the Chicken Sandwich bowl. That play (if we had gotten the 1st) changed the whole complexity of the season and what ultimately could have been a huge pay day for LSU. I need a good laugh after writing this, I'm heading over to the Fark Board.

LSU vs Arkansas 2002. We go for the fg and lose. This is not a bone headed decision. I think a lot of coaches would have kicked the fg, including Saban.

Hindsight is 20/20 but you have the number one team on the ropes and a first down seals the game, you have to stay with the one that brought you. Mett was picking them apart so I would have to think some sort of "safe" pass maybe hitting a back out of the backfield after play action....just guessing!! And as for the "prevent defense"...I seen many games where it does just what the name says-it prevents you from holding on to the lead!!
