The big picture is that despite all the talk from Les and Cam about getting better in the passing game and despite the fact that we have elite athletes at all the skill positions, we are even more 1 dimensional than we were last year.
Agreed but Brandon Harris isn't the problem.

Cameron in love with the 7 step drop wait 15 minutes for the route to be run 40 yards down field while the line holds blocks forever and a day. And by the way this defense looks weak. Backs at Arkansas, Bama and Taylor from Florida will run ragged over us ato this rate.

Just out of curiosity I looked up how many games Jennings threw for less than 100 yards. I want to point out, I thought Jennings' season last year was the most frustrating I have ever witnessed by an LSU qb. Jennings has thrown for less than 100 yards 5 times. Harris has now hit his 4th game with less than 100 yards and that's in a total of 7 games participated. I have no problem with the run first offense and I believe in Harris' arm talent and ability to run, but I just thought it was interesting to point out. Wr play looks worse, but none of the wrs are new to the system. Something really looks off. Harris' best performance this year was against Syracuse when we really needed him to step up and that's encouraging, but regardless of how much we throw the football, it has to be easier to execute than this. We have speed, where are the crossing routes, bubble screens, quick slants?
Nowhere did I say I want to see a ton of passing. I just think we should have a more effective passing game. I just used the metric of 100 yards because even with the inept Jennings we achieved that mark most games last year...in fact 9 times and 2 that we didn't he got pulled against NMSU and only played a small amount against Auburn. Also, 100 yards can be achieved in most schemes with 7 or 8 completions, which should equate to about 12 or 15 passes a game, which is about what we do.
I also stated that I am happy with the run first offense and feeding Fournette a ton. I have no issue with rushing for 350 a game, nor do I think we should deviate from that effort, but we need to compliment it better.
My only issue with Jennings was that the ball rarely even came near the receivers hands. He had glaring accuracy issues. The problem last night was clearly the WRs. Harris was not perfect, but more than 70% of the balls hit receivers in the hands. They had several long passes dropped and 3-4 TDs between Dural and Dupre. At this level you are expected to make contested catches if you get two hands on the ball. Harris would have been over220 with at least 3tds last night.. People that didn't see the game will wake up, look at the stat line, and think Harris is the worst QB in college football.

The receivers did not help Harris much

I agree with that. I'm not concerned what the stats look like, but I am concerned that we are not executing, one way or another.

I've always said that Cam seems to have no memory when it comes to what has worked and what isn't working in the passing game. We've had some nice success with bubble-screen type passes to Dural this year. It's a high % pass at least and can move the chains. Though the D had their whole team at the line last night, if you do that play and the blocker on the outside seals his man correctly, Dural could be off to the races after beating maybe one guy since there is nobody in the secondary. I don't get it.
Our WR play is much worse than it was last year. Dural was great last year and had tons of separation on long balls, Dupree really elevated for catches, etc. We know they have the ability, but they have to get after it more during the game. We obviously have some passing scheme issues, but the coaches seemed to be trying to mix in more passing last night but that is hard to do when the WRs are giving the effort they gave last night. It's not always on the coaches for being run-heavy. Last night it was on the players. Gotta change that if we want to win anything significant.

My gosh! We're undefeated, ranked in the top 5/6, have a good handle on the schedule. What are you bitchin" about.
So we shouldn't be concerned with some glaring weaknesses while heading into the teeth if SEC play against some great defenses?
Everyone is happy we are winning, but we can discuss what issues we face without you bitching.
So I'll throw you a lob and give you the floor....what happens to LSU if Bama or Fla hold LF under 100? You think we'll be fine?

I agree. The problem is on the sideline and in the booth.
And until those guys either leave or find a way to overcome their own deficiencies our passing game will continue to be the Achilles heal of what could otherwise be a championship team.

Fournette. . . . . dumbass. Why would you throw 30 times a game with a stud like that? Some of yall are just dumb.
When you see letters on a page, can you comprehend what they mean, or do you just think they are randomly scattered around with no semblance of order?
He clearly wrote that he is not asking for us to throw more passes but he is questioning the efficiency.

LSU finds itself in a familiar situation. Without a QB
Uh, did you watch the game ding dong? Harris can't catch it for the receivers.

Somebody like Florida or Bama is going to stop the run and we will be screwed because we can't pass.

Harris can pass just fine
Receivers can't catch

Taking note of possible issues for what it is like Harris's decision making, OC playbook and so on....what should the passing efficiency be? Keep in mind he's completing 53.2 % and thrown 62 passes all year. Give him 10 passes back due drops and penalties alone thru 4 games...he would be near 70%/top 10 in that category.

Other QBs don't have drops that count against their completion %?
I honestly don't think Harris is the problem but I was pointing out that the poster I replied to was way off base in his response to the OP

Understood but I wouldn't care if he was last in the nation at 70%.

I am a big supporter of the coaches and team, but last nights game was terrible. EM played with heart and courage last night. I don't have a problem with the offence we run, but they had more creativity on there side. That two point conversion was a thing of beauty, again playing a team that had nothing to lose.
I thought we played the game backwards. We should have ran the ball down their throats in the 1st quarter/half and then worked on passing game. To me, it just looked forced. I don't know what the problem is with receivers, but they need to help the QB out. With that said...going forward I'm more concerned with the defence against the better offence we will face.
