Yeah, thanks to the movie Waterboy (great) everybody see people from LA a cajuns.

1.No, we don't go to work in a pirogue. We do have streets.
2.The state bird is not a mosquito.
3. No, we don't hunt & eat alligator everyday.
4. Most people don't speak cajun, but a lot try and sound like assholes.

I been to almost every city in the US and when they find out your from NO or BR people gravitate toward you because the cajun heritage is fun lovin and unique.

The campus lakes are right on campus and they have cypress trees and apparently a couple of gators, so I could see how out of towners could consider the lakes a bayou.

Why did a thread about the superiority of LSU tailgating devolve into a ridiculous argument over whether LSU fans are Cajuns? You people are idiots.

Uhh, I'm cajun, and I'm out there tailgating every week with my cajun family - cooking a lot of cajun food, jambalya, boiled shrimp, red beans, alligator to name a few. I'm a cajun who went to LSU, THE STATE UNIVERSITY, where, guess what, a lot of cajuns go - how many people at LSU are actually from Baton Rouge? I think there are a lot more people from the rest of the state. And most of the people I know who are actually from Baton Rouge are the lame ones who show up late and buy their food, not the tailgaters gettin down and dirty.

Because the quote used in the first post of the thread painted a broad stroke insinuating that we're all Cajuns and we're not, idiot.

Apples and oranges. I'm from B.R., went to LSU, a season ticket holder since 1998, arrive at my spot and cook breakfast before you even roll over on game day

The word Acadian literally means "of Canada". The original definition of the word Creole was ther first generation born on the new land weither the Islands or mainland whose parents were born in the France or Spain. Due to the bigotry of the first settlers to the new guys from Canada they held on to the title of Creole as a title of status and to set them apart from the Acadians. The would not allow marrage between the groups. The Creole term the started to change as the mixed blood children of the Creole men that kept first black then Mallata then Quadroons mistresses used the term to defind them selves because as mixed bloods they were not excepted by white or the black race.

Bottom line they kept the term to keep their culture, and because of the bigotry between the two groups, crazy as it sounds, as they all were decendents of families in France

As a Cajun, I'm glad that you've owned up to your deficiencies. I would suggest that you do your best to make certain that your children marry a Cajun to deepen your gene pool and enhance your genetic shortcomings.

I agree with DA HAT. I understand that each person living in Louisiana is not of Cajun orgin but it is our unique culture here in the area that they lump us all in. It's not a bad thing that we are known by being "cajun". There are people groups all over the US that would beg for some attention to be nationally known as "something or anything". Take it on the chin even if you are not cajun and enjoy it.

Yes I am of Acadian herritage and my GrandPa opperated a store in uptown New Orleans from 1900 to 1960 by Napoleon and Saint Charles. He was born near Vacherie, that has a state metal historical marker stating it was the first Acadiana settlement in Louisiana. the place where it all started when they came down the Mississippi from Canada.

Although we like the Cajun moniker now in my grandpa's time it was like calling an Irishman a mic, you would most likely would have gotten hit for saying it.

Get a life. Most people outside of LA associate LA with cajuns, creole, french. If you insulted by that to bad its not going to change. I like hearing down on the bayou. It kind of has a mystic to it. Definitly unique.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with being a Cajun (“broad strokes”). Hell, my wife was born and raised in Rayne. Obviously one of your deficiencies is reading comprehension.

Well, if I was in fact from cajun heritage I would feel the same way.

Unfortunately, I can't claim genuine cajun heritage, but I always take it as a compliment when out-of-staters think I am one. Cajun culture is one of the best things about Louisiana.

It's because of the tone of your posts. It seems as though you are ashamed to be lumped in with us of cajun decent.

South Louisiana is going to be associated with Cajun heritage. Is that such a bad thing?

As far as misconceptions go, I think that you are the one living in a dream world. Do me a favor. Start at the center of Baton Rouge and drive twenty miles in any direction. You will run into plenty of bayous with their fair share of Cajun descendants(sp) living there. They probably outnumber the non-cajun population everywhere south of Alexandria. So just stop getting offended for an accurate portrayal of the non-urban parts of the state.
