Gilbert has been injured all season, not a "sore arm" he has a shoulder injury. He is grinding thru the pain to pitch because he feels the team needs him. They shot him up with cortisone to try to get him thru the season. Most unselfish player on team to sacrifice his draft year to gut out an injury for the team. My buddy has a kid on the team, I've met Caleb several times, as fine a young man as you will ever meet. Bleeds purple and gold. Works his arse off in the class room and on the field.
I met him before the season opener. I just happened to be walking up to the stadium the same time that he and his girl friend was walking up. Just spoke a few words to him and wished him luck on the start and the season. He was very respectful and thanked me. Seemed like a nice young man. if what your saying about his injury is true and I have no doubt that it is. Why wouldn't PM tell him look we appreciate you wanting to gut through but for your own good we are going to shut you down? I might a guy play on a injured leg or whatever but IMO to let a pitcher to continue pitching on a injured shoulder is irresponsible and selfish.

Cortisone injection
Medieval medicine will put him in further health jeopardy as cortisone breaks down connective tissue and it’s effects fleeting
