who gets #18?
First they need to burn Murphy's # 18 to get all the bad JU JU out of it. Then give a new 18 to Ridley.

Was it necessary to post this twice?

Really? Are you that new to LSU football? I consider myself a young tiger fan(my first season was '95) and I can remeber three tigers with good seasons. Dixon - junior season had good numbers for a tight end Hester - senior season, hope I don't need to elaborate. Mauck - 13-1 SEC and National Champs...
Thank you

The real question is "who is going to start the next "who gets #18?" thread?"
Me, you, Prominentwon and Doc Fenton are the only ones left. I call not it.

Russell Shepard is a good one. I like Ron Brooks for it too.

There is no tradition...of the 4 people who wore it, 2/4 were hurt all the time and barely produced . How is that tradition?
It's a new tradition. Tradition requires the passage of time so it will take time. But the purpose of the new tradition is that the present wearer of the number chooses the next wearer and it is supposed to be someone who overcame adversity, worked hard and put team first. I see nothing wrong with that and celebrating those qualities is admirable. So why do some diss on it? I just don't get that reaction.

I don't understand why people don't like the #18 (new) tradition. What is wrong with passing the number to someone who represents LSU well on and off the field, who has overcome adversity and puts the team first? Those posting that a given #18 had a bad year or got hurt are missing the point. Being awarded #18 does not imply or guarantee a great season for the wearer. It is to recognize their commitment to the team before getting the number.

Again the recent #18 is being misinterpreted. It has nothing to do with stats, or race, or anything other than a guy who exhibits dedication, or leadership, or whatever quality that the guy before him may have possessed or inspired.
Mauck and Hester's play speak for itself, Murphy lost both parents to cancer and came back after a serious knee injury. I don't know what inspired Dickson to receive it, but maybe somebody could post that.
18 has nothing to do with stats or level of talent. If it sticks it will become something special although right now it doesn't have enough history to be seen that way.

I think Jarrett Lee deserves it for the resilience he has shown

Mettenberger? Even though he hasn't seen the field yet.
