laron/steltz

Both were great.

Time for CJ to continue the legacy.

With Jessie Daniels starting over Steltz, then I don't think we should even be having this discussion since LaRon was 10x the safety Daniels was.

If answered truthfully I doubt anyone can say that they do. There was a reason why Laron started and played over Steltz. Steltz was great but Laron was just better, In fact I was missing those hard hits and laying QBs out, till I saw CJ start knocking heads. Can't wait to see more of Jones this year.

So laron>daniels>steltz?

Something isn't right here considering that steltz was first team all america and a fourth round draft pick while daniels didn't even get drafted. Maybe steltz should have been starting over daniels all along?

+1 Coleman too if he plays like he did against Ohio St.

While Daniels was here, obviously if he was starting over him. 4 good years > 1 good year

Steltz as a senior (and healthy), maybe a teensy-weensy better than Laron as a freshman. Steltz as a senior (and healthy) certainly comparable to Laron as a freshman and sophomore. Laron as a junior and senior was head and shoulders above all but Steltz's very best performances.

Laron is arguably the best DB LSU has produced, excepting Tommy Casanova. And I think Laron and Steltz two of the four or five best strong safties LSU has produced. (And no, neither Laron or Steltz were good at coverage.)

So JV in 06>hester, keiland, scott? I think daniels starting over steltz was a classic example of les's tendency to play the guy with seniority, as was his starting of JV.

That's how these discussions get stuck on stupid. Tommie Frazier was one of the best "football" players I ever saw. The fact that his skills didn't translate to the NFL doesn't diminish that at all. Terrell Davis as a pro ran figurative circles around Kevin Faulk as an every down back in the NFL. Kevin Faulk was 5 times the college player Terrell Davis was.

Hester and Keiland both got more carries than Vincent. Steltz didn't play anywhere near as much as Daniels did.

True, college & pro success often don't coincide ... but I don't care for your examples. Tommy Frazier played in one of the most infamous systems in history, the steroid-inflated walk-on factory at Nebraska ... I'll take your word for it that he was good, but he didn't have to be. As for Terrell Davis, nothing against him but Kevin Faulk would have run circles around him if he'd had the holes opened by that cut-blocking Denver line.

I can't believe this guy is even being taken seriously. I'm a HUGE Steltz fan but Jesus Christ Laron started as a freshman for a reason.

JV still started half the season. And steltz did play as much as daniels did his sophomore and junior years and had better numbers even though he didn't start.

He started but didn't play more. When Jessie Daniels was healthy, he played more than Steltz.

Steltz: More sportsmanship.

Landry: Glad he was on OUR team.

All right - Ryan Leaf, Heath Shuler, Chris Weinke and Danny Wuerrful were four outstanding college QBs. Leaf was one of the best anyone had ever seen, and I tended to agree at the time that he was a "can't miss" NFL QB. Compare the professional success of those four to Tom Brady or Joe Montana (certainly 2 of the 5 or 6 most successful QBs in NFL history - with Aikman and Bradshaw, maybe throw Bart Star and Roger Staubach in, as multiple SB winners - history) and played for big league schools but just didn't ring up the gaudy stats or numbers to be highly regarded coming out.
