If he does not, it will be his downfall.
He may not have to fire them, but bring in a true DC and can keep them in other areas....
BUT...if next year things continue.....
the word TOLERANCE will not be heard.

...just the nature of the "business"

This assumes he doesn't pick a guy before bowl season is over and have a handshake agreement in place.
The Pelini situation is totally different since Les was just hired

He won't do it before Bowl season is done & he may want an NFL guy, pushing it back even further.

Assuming he doesn't bring his with him or have agreements with the guys already.

He might, that's certainly a possibility. Or the school we take him from, probably a smaller school than LSU, will simply promote the Linebacker coach to DC & the staff stays with the LB'er coach. That's seems likely IMO. Sure he might get a couple of guys to go, but he is just a Coordinator himself. Who did Pelini bring? I know that was different, but it could repeat. If it's an NFL guy...he's got nobody anyway.
quote:

Unless what I mentioned above happens. The Pelini situation is a terrible comparison.

You don't think any recruits would go, damn Dick Bumpas has turned out some really good defense with lacking talent. I'm talent think what he could make me. I think they would.

My concern like I said, is that the recruits get really attached to thier position coaches. Sure they can & probably will say: ex. "Tenuta is known for great Defenses, now who is my Coach? The guy I spend everyday with?"

quote:

In other words we have guys for 2-3 years which you must admit would be enough for whoever the new DC is to bring in a guy or two.

If we need a recruit to replace one of those guys its an indictment on the coaches and they should be replaced.

No, we really don't have enough guys for 2-3 years at Safety, Linebacker or DL..We simply need more players. And with injuries..it's gets bad very quickly. We have some great CB's probably enough for 2-3 years. But can't afford to lose a Janzen Jackson or Drayton Calhoun. They are too good to pass up. I think Claiborne is a lock either way, even if the DC's are gone. But who knows for sure? Nebraska & A&M want him bad. Other schools are now showing interest. He's much better than people here think. Janzen...well I'm sure you've heard the rumors. It's an issue, people are openly calling for the DC's heads, meanwhile, Jackson's getting calls - all the time now.
quote:

Which we have enough depth to get by till then.

No, were gonna hurt badly if we lose at DE/DT this year. RJF (maybe)& Favorite, T.Jackson, T.Johnson, Alexander & Pittman ALL gone this year. What we are looking at is Levingston, Aghayere & Corley maybe Clement at DE plus Alem for 1 year. Looking at Hagans, Nevis & L.Edwards & Aubrey at DT plus Woods for 1 year. We need immediate help this year. Not because the players have been badly coached, it's because we are losing 5 maybe 6 impact players if RJF goes. That is a ton. People are wondering about Akiem Hicks...Hell yes were gonna take a 4 star Juco DT! We need to replace the potential 6 losses with at minimum of 4 DL. Davenport, Downs, Hicks & Brockers are huge for us. Could use 1 more.
quote:

I have an I think you are making an idiotic argument. You act like we will hire a totally incompetent recruiting DC and absolutely none of the recruits has an attachment to Miles or LSU, which is absurd.

No, you are misunderstanding me. It's got nothing to do with hiring an incompetent DC. It's the recruits. This is in my opinion the most important class by far since Miles has been here. We need to hit a homerun with this class. Miles has the bases loaded. Todd Walker's up to bat walking to the plate..BAM! He's hit by SloFloPro being pushed around in his fat wagon by Glenn Guilbeau & Paul Finebaum. No, but really. This class holds our Future at QB, RB, DT, LBer & Safety. We've recruited heavily out of state recruits & particularly on Defense. Out of State recruits are always a risk, but magnified when people keep running down the Coaches. Then they'll ask: "What happened? I don't understand why ____ didn't sign with us. Miles can't recruit!" You get the idea. Again my opinion, but we will lose most of them if we lose Mallory, Peveto & Earl Lane. You're right, the recruits do Love Miles, they really like the guy. He's honest with them & their Moms love him too. But it's the everday coaches they get nervous/concerned about. This situation with the fans & media BS could not have happened at a worse time. I am really hoping Miles gets with Mallory & Peveto to get this thing worked out quickly.

quote:

I would like to point out that stick with a terrible pair of DCs would impact us long past one lost recruiting class.

Ordinarily, even last year's class, I would have agreed with you. But like I was saying, this one class is so damn important, it's not even funny. I hope things arre corrected quickly & we can keep both Mallory & Peveto. Maybe bring in another guy if necessary. It's obvious at least part is youth & inexperience.

Well, if he doesn't make changes and we get worse on defense next year and lose 4 or so games or more, he'll be in the same position next year.

I hope things get better. The differene being, if we needed to make a severe change next year, the horses are already in the stable & 2010 would not hurt nearly as much as losing 2009 would.

our program could be completely derailed by that point

we're THIS close to losing this team this year, and if that happens then we are always under that threat

Sammich- I see your point. Which is why I think Miles promoted Mallaveto to begin with- to keep consistency with the recruits.

That is also why I think if a change is made, he hires someone but tells them they must use his position coaches. I don't think many recruits would jump ship over that.

Plus- a few people have said Mallory looks beat down. Maybe they accept going back to position coaches and stay on the staff. You never know. When Jimbo left after 2006 I don't think we had any recruits jump ship I don't think.

So it can be done.
