The same reason that more graduate assistants don't move to be head coaches within a year. Same logic

Half of the great Alabama or LSU LBers from this decade would’ve played RB 20 years ago.
Hell, just four years ago Devin White was recruited as a RB and had to have “the talk” before agreeing to the switch. Obviously it turned out to be a wise business decision for him.
Devin could’ve won a Heisman as a RB if that’s what he wanted to do.

I mean That LF7 was the ideal. Obviously not everyone looks like the prototype
But most of these guys were basically limited to third down option (outside Sanders)
