If you think the U.S. oil companies are on "the dark side", then why not move to Europe or Asia where you can pay 2X or higher for gasoline and oil for your car and 2-3X higher for natural gas to heat your home. It's a scarce commodity that now costs 3 times what it cost 5-10 years ago to find in large quantities.....if fortunate enough to actually find it! The rise in commodity prices in the U.S. are largely dictated by foreign countries' control of these resources, the explosion in emerging markets who compete for oil and gas, and the inability to drill in areas with known large deposits in other parts of the U.S.
And, let's not forget about the 10's of thousands of people whose jobs are directly tied to this industry, the ancillary 100's of thousands of service businesses that depend on the health of the O&G industry, plus the thousands of private land/mineral owners who derive their supplemental income from royalties from their land........
Our country has lived on "cheap energy" for decades, and the reckoning is finally upon us.....those states who are unwilling to allow new or expanded drilling in their home state are therefore leaving it to LA, TX, and OK to continue to bear the biggest burden for production, refining, and delivery of these commodities to their cars and homes....
this "Not In My Backyard" mentality is typical of the "liberal motto" of "Change".....it means "Meet me at a different Starbucks than where we usually meet, and we can continue bitching about what's wrong without actually coming up with real solutions!"

This must not include refineries, although I hear differently. I am 25 years old with 7 years of deepwater production experience and I can’t even get an interview for a refinery job. I don’t have a college education, but I purposely leave my high school graduation year on my resume to point out that I am young.
