Here's an objective nugget of truth:

The car companies would not have created the lease if they didn't stand to make substantial profit from them.

If it was a better deal for most people, than they would not have done it, because it was a worse deal for them.

It's appropriate for some people, but not for the vast majority. This is illustrated in this thread with about 20% singing the praises of leasing and 80% bitching about it. The 20% of people that it is appropriate for is covered by those that lease for the wrong reason (the 80%) and leaves them with a nice chunk of change (the residual 60%).

From a purely logical viewpoint, I think most people can agree with this.

fixed. Just because a company makes a profit off of a product doesn't mean its bad for the consumer.

part of the 80% bitching is the old story "well, a friend of mine leased and got arse-raped". you know what? your friend likely didnt abide by the terms of the lease. also, your other buddies who do lease and do like it, probably didnt tell you about it cause leasing isnt as widely accepted as buying.
