Yeah, my username has me hiding in plain view.
I'm pretty sure I know who you are now.

I'm currently enrolled in the CIA program (in the first class).
Is this like the CPA Prep program LSU had several years ago? Where can I find more info?

No. The LSU CIA program is an entire program made up of 3 classes and an internship that will count as a class credit hours wise. The program starts every year in the spring semester.

Does the CIA program have a better placement than a basic graduate from the school of accountancy?

Might be difficult to determine since all majors can join the program vs just accounting majors.
I would venture to say yes, but I don't have any figures nor do I feel like digging through the website to see if it is posted anywhere.

Ok so I looked:

I think the year I did the program the placement rate was close to 80%. I would guess that those numbers have decreased quite a bit over the past 4 years because of the economy.
The other benefit of the program (at least when I joined) is that there were companies who recruited for the LSUCIA program, but werent apart of general recruiting. Companies like CIT, Goldman Sachs and AXA recruited exclusively for the CIA program. There are other comapnies I'm missing as well.
Also the CIA program was the best/easiest option for those students who wanted to move to places like California, NYC, DC, Chicago etc. As I said earlier in the thread I chose to do the CIA program as I saw it as my best option to move to NYC.

The placement rate of the internship is very much dependent on the well-being of the economy, and hence the hiring ability of the major corporations. For the last six years, the placement rate for our students has been in the range from 50% to 80%. In other words, over half of the class received the opportunity to intern with the prestigious companies who recruit from the LSUCIA program.

In terms of B4 or just overall employment? I'd say it does, but you're also effectively cherry picking with the CIA people to begin with. They'd be getting jobs either way.

I don't think I've had a group case with you or Pumpkins yet. But then again I don't know either of your real life identities
.
Knock on wood I haven't been asked to present yet.

That's a fair point. Vast majority who stay in the program tend to be above average students or at the very least above average in terms of motivation (to get a job). However, there is also always a decent segment of the LSUCIA population who are there as a hail mary to get a job.
I don't think I would have had the opportunity to move to NYC if it weren't for the CIA program. I think that's what the CIA program does the best; create exposure to job locations outside of the normal LSU Business school locations of Texas, Louisiana and Georgia.

For a nominal fee I will give you all the answers to your group cases. They use the same ones often.

Is Jarred teaching at all this semester?
Posted on 2/7/12 at 2:51 pm to MStant1
That is kind of like here, a lot of companies recruit the accounting program but very few national companies recruit the business school. For instance I was looking for a consulting internship for the summer and it is almost impossible to go through the school to do it. Luckily I know a lot of people within the big firms, if not I couldn't even get in front of a recruiter due to the school I go to.

I think he's teaching but not Internal Audit I.

He's teaching AIS & he went to the Kickoff event. But only Sumners & Lydia have been in class so far, with Sumners being there most of the time except when we have tests which coincide with his travel schedule.
Btw does Lydia ever teach? I know she has a lot on her plate this semester so I was just wondering what she usually does or if she's involved in the Fall class a lot more.

She pretty much did the whole Fall class when I was in it. The fall class was really easy. I think everyone made an A.
