Try to get a job at Turing if you can they ipo soon and imo are gonna rocket lots of innovative stuff, prob will be the best biotech ipo when it happens
Posted on 8/12/15 at 7:55 am to lsutraderman
I've got some money in IBB right now... and that's terrifying enough for me. I wouldn't want to try to pick biotech stocks. Just not my kind of science I guess.
Posted on 8/12/15 at 7:59 am to baytiger
The ibb is large cap science that's all safe but massively overpriced imo gild best of breed at 10x earnings all the other stuff like biogen needs to be repriced lower. Celg is prob the best scientists around in large cap land and are partnered with every hot new biotech and flat will dominate in 5 years but right now celg isn't s buy till some revlimid lawsuits get out the way but I'm more of a trader of xbi components which are bios sub $10b. Anyways the risk on aspect of bioland is probably scary to most but if you know what you're doing and looking for its easily the most exciting part of the market.

Traderman, I'm happy to read your thoughts, please post more. I need to diversify out of energy and I know jackshit about biotech.
Posted on 8/12/15 at 9:33 am to sneakytiger
I'm telling you imo bluebird is the best science around, its $127 now down 6% on literally nothing more than high beta names like bios are slammed bc of china which is silly bc blue is not gonna give 2 you know whats come december when they report their data. If all is well with their SCD patient its going to fly, they just did an offering at $170 you wanna buy bios below their offering this is 25% below the offering now, to me its a complete steal. Could it bounce off the 200 dma, sure but the downside risk here pre data is prob $10, you can prob sell this pre data up closer to $200 if you wanna be out before imo

Not so much breathless press releases and stock-pumping rumors

Lol wow stock pumping rumors, be my guest hop on pubmed and get some published papers on bluebird, here I'm attaching a link, why don't you do a little research before you call someone a pumper, I laid out some pretty solid info, you sound very small minded actually.
LINK
The reality is I wasn't searching for you non science types, any science types would have immediately welcomed me and engaged me in conversation thats why I asked if any other science types were here, sorry for offending you, I didn't mean to come off as a pumper lol

Look the only reason i made an account is I went to LSU for my undergrad days and Im a huge football fan, just wanted to see if there were any other chem guys from back when I went to school, I wanted to discuss some bios and I got all these guys coming in here talking about me pumping and whatnot lol if any of you guys were biotech guys we could have a great convo, but thats why you don't go and comment in threads you weren't invited to, i asked if there were any other biotech guys and if you're questioning any of the names I mentioned, you aren't a bio guy haha. I don't go in the oil threads, I leave you oil guys to discuss what you know

Scale 1-10, how much do you love science?
Posted on 8/12/15 at 10:26 am to Grits N Shrimp
about as much as you enjoy trolling intelligent posters on this forum
nice welcome to the board, anyways i guess I can just leave since everyone is out to ridicule, its sad too bc I had a decent bit of info to offer

and with that degree, you have no interest in biotech investing? I mean I've always felt I had an edge in that I can open up pub med and read papers with insight the average fund manager couldn't.
Posted on 8/12/15 at 10:55 am to lsutraderman
In what universe do you think a mouse model paper -> "prob cures sickle cell disease in the next 12 mo"
Posted on 8/12/15 at 11:07 am to Iosh
IOSH you really studied molecular biology and you have no interest in gene therapy? Im gonna call BS

There's a link with the data from last december showing the first 4 beta thal patients were transfusion free and literally cured while on lentiglobin. I don't mean treated I mean full blown cures. The SCD patient now, they updated on him yesterday and 6 months later he's transfusion free and not even using advil which the CEO said was unheard of.
Man I posted one link from pubmed about the science involved and you call me out? Bluebird is working on human beings and cures being thrown around in beta thal and because of the similarity in how the creation of hemoglobin is required more than likely they sure SCD when they update this DEC.
This is prob the next GILD and you're over here mocking me? Any molecular biologist would probably jizz himself looking at the science and the results bluebird has displayed, results that nobody in the space has shown in 30+ years. Again, there is a reason why its worth almost $5B without a dollar of revenue, its called hype. This is a monster market, bluebird could be the next GILD in terms of curing a monster disease, do a little due diligence before you call me out chief.
If you knew the disease you'd understand these people go through transfusions their whole lives in beta than and scd and then die young usually from a buildup of iron from those transfusions, to be transfusion free is game changing
