true. LSU was much higher than i expected it to be. US News ranks LSU nearly last in the SEC but in this poll they were only behind Florida and Vandy. US News really needs to change their ranking methodology, they give too much weight to peer assessment scores. another surprise, at least to me, is that tulane is above emory.

$59,900 in the bay area is barely enough to survive. Rent at 1K a month (if you share an apartment), 4.70 a gallon for gas and everything is about 30% more expensive than say Baton Rouge.

there's no way UC-San Luis Obispo is a top five university.

They have an excellent engineering program. Not sure about the rest of the school though.

Very surprising that LSU is that high on the list.

You're right. Considering that most people go to school to get a better job and make more money, then that is a very important factor.

That $200 median income difference between UF and LSU proves just how much head over heals superior UF is to LSU (and the rest of the SEC) in every way possible.

Shaq and Jamarcus raise the average by at least $20,000.
This would affect the mean, not the median (rankings are done by median).

I read the methodology they used for the study, but nowhere did it mention whether the numbers included graduates who were going to graduate school. If so, then it is understandable why schools like Michigan would have lower results since a higher portion of its graduates attend graduate school than LSU.

This chart is based upon PayScale Salary Survey data for Bachelors graduates without higher degrees who are full-time employees in the United States.

I also question to what extent graduate school increases earning power. Certainly professional schools - doctor, dentist, lawyer, MBA - increase salary, but I'm not sure getting an MFA or a PhD in social work really increases salary that much.

I don't care what they earn after getting hte graduate degree. I was thinking about what they were paid as graduate students for teaching and research fellowships. Those typically are very low salaries. Therefore, the more graduates pursuing graduate degrees the more graduates with low incomes reducing the median income level for all graduates.
