The bubble took a big hit yesterday, Miami, Florida, UK, VT all losing
Posted on 3/5/09 at 3:55 pm to PiscesTiger
I hated to do it, but Auburn's gonna get in. FLA loses to UK on Saturday...and they're both out.
I now have LSU as a 5 seed in Greensboro. It's gonna be a tough one.
I want to drop Marquette, but part of me thinks they will be THAT team in the Big East Tourney.
Not much else changed...not as much as I had thought.

damn auburn went from not even first 5 out to IN ... you must be expecting an LSU loss saturday...wouldn't be surprised for us to be a 1 or 2 point underdog
Posted on 3/5/09 at 4:07 pm to LSUzealot
Zealot, you know me...I'm a realist. Auburn has really taken on all comers and could have beaten us at home. They will get the first round SEC bye and then take on a struggling eastern team (or Arkansas) in the quarter-finals. I would be happy to have Auburn in as opposed to UK and UF - the lameducks of the SEC.
Yep, AU moved a bunch on my radar. And yep, I think they beat us Saturday.

Lebo is a good coach, i'm glad they gave him time to rebuild.

It's his 5th year and they're on the bubble of the NCAA tourney. That's what makes a good coach?

I am a conscientious objector to Auburn's chances. My roommate asked me this same question. I DO think Auburn beats LSU on Saturday. They will be the 2 seed from the West, and will get a bye to the quarters.
There, barring an upset, they will face any of the top four teams in the East. Unfortunately, based on records and current tourney statues, Tennessee and South Carolina are the only of the four that would offer Auburn chances at quality wins outside of LSU.
Kentucky and Florida, as you see with my latest projections, are out. They also play each other Saturday, so one will be on the brink, and the other further out.
Auburn needs to play both Tennessee and South Carolina, and maybe LSU again in the finals, to have an at-large shot. I just don't think a path that goes through Kentucky and Florida will be enough.

kansas drops to a 3 seed
how do we lose to the worst team in the conference? that could kill us

Yeah, that was a massive blow for KU. It's one thing to get beat, it's another to get handled by a terrible basketball team.
Posted on 3/5/09 at 5:17 pm to BraveTiger225
score will mislead many. we did get worked by about 8-12 points. but we had the scrubs in for a few minutes and they stretched it to 20. still awful

Are you serious? You don't remember the situation there when he took over? Not to mention it's not like bball is a huge priority at Auburn.

Good stuff so far tonight. Xavier got a big win over Dayton. Penn State went into lock status with that win over Illinois. Arizona State is going to drop in my bracket again after dropping one at home to an awful Stanford team.
Some others in the Pac-10 still going including a huge one between Cal and Zona.
VMI-Radford for the Big South championship Saturday. A-Sun and OVC will also punch tickets then. Semis for them will be tomorrow.

Rhode Island wants an at-large I see. They can only get in with an auto. Dayton, I think, is safe. NO danger in losing to the best team in the A10, although that would have sewn it up for the Flyers.
This is getting good.

PS, I would much rather LSU be in 225's bracket than mine.
Posted on 3/6/09 at 12:19 pm to PiscesTiger
URI can get hot in the tourney and have a few teams slip up, and they will get in. Creighton's journey begins today. If they drop one, we'll see just how strong their at-large case is. I don't buy it, however.
Dayton is safe. Penn State is now safe. Providence just doesn't have the SUPER résumé you'd like. They need to hold serve.

Can't disagree with any of those there. Some of these early conference tourneys get interesting starting today. Three bids to be handed out tomorrow! Giddy up!

Giving Uk a 13 seed? Usually a major only gets a 13 if they are a team like '08 UGA. I think they're a 17th seed.
Anyway, I am thoroughly enjoying the Pitt/U Conn game. My girl is even watching with interest.
Winner of this is unquestionably your overall 1.
