After going through this thread, I still don't know who is defending what.
IMO, a college player could do well in one PGA tournament, but not even remotely good week to week like the pros. Half those kids haven't even seen a links golf course.
Fwiw Peterson is a complete douche.

No doubt, but it seems the ones defending him are doing so based on their fandom alone.
Honestly, I don't care about LSU's golf team.

This is all I was saying...

I've never met him or heard any opinion on him...

Yeah seeing as he's a former #1 player in the world and a major winner. He has no idea of what it takes.
Duval hasn't competed in over 5 years...

So he no longer has a say on what it takes to be a tour pro?

I think Peterson just got a little jacked up after his finish last week and thought "damn, this was too easy - if I can do it I know there's 20 or 30 guys who I played against the last 4 years that could beat me on any given day - they can do it too".
Peterson just got Lesson #1 on public speaking, something he really hasn't had to do much of in spite of being the NCAA Champion.

Late to the thread.
Knowing several professional golfers no way the top 20 ncaa guys beat the top 20 pga guys day in and day out. The top 20 from the pga can get the ball up and down from anywhere or manage their games enough to avoid trouble. Ball striking doesn't vary that much from #1 to #300 on tour it is all the other stuff that varies.
Another interesting stat is only three golfers have earned their tour cards in the last 20 years by making enough money in 6 sponser invitations. Those golfers were Justin Loenard, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods. I bring this up because it is easy to play on tour when you are still in college and not have to worry about paying the bills. Worrying about making a check adds another level of pressure to the game.

doesn't look like these guys are competing for a spot in the tour championship.
Yeah, most guys don't become top 30 players. The tour championship from 2007 and 2010 will have a lot of the same guys. Golf is longevity.
And the reason for the nationwide is experience. But keegan spent one year there. steele, one year, Vegas, a couple.
And duval nearly won the open 2 years ago. If you're a top 125 player, you've accomplished your #1 goal for the year.
This debate is pretty much going to be all for not, as probably next q school, only nationwide cards will be available.

I know Peterson personally and I can speak for him when I say that he did not mean it to come out like that. He meant that amateurs had the ability to beat the pro's. Obviously that was very poorly worded and he will learn that every word to the national media is put under a microscope. He needs to think more about what he says and learn that people will blow things out of proportion in the media
And he isn't a douche at all. It's funny that you can say that but have never actually gotten the opportunity to hang out with him. Keep your dumb bullshite like that out of this thread
