And thus I'll never consider Mayweather an all-time "great " fighter...Ton of talent, not enough heart

The real problem with Mayweather and De La Hoya is they are not passing the torch down to the next generation of fighters by fighting the best new boxers. Julio Cesar Chavez was like 80 years old and fought De La Hoya when he had no business doing so. Holmes fought Tyson in his prime well after he should be boxing. Those guys did not just retire while on top. They put their egos aside and did what was best for the sport. Now you have guys like Calzage that fight an entire career before fighting any name fighters. Its nonsense.

To even be considered a professional fighter reduces this statement to garbage. Not to mention no one has beaten FM thus further reducing any claims of future defeat. The boxing talent difference between the two are worlds apart. FM does not fade like Cotto or Oscar which make catching him a moot point.

I think Mayweather would beat Margarito. He just doesn't want to have to earn it in the ring. He has guys like you saying he could do it in his sleep for him already...Forgive me if I would like to see it happen for real in the ring.

No he wouldn't. That is a terrible matchup for FM. He's already ducked him once, as stated before. You can't run from Margarito. FM would get backed down and eventually beat down. If Cotto couldn't hurt Margarito, then FM can't. That fight isn't going to happen, though.

Until the Margarito fight, when did Cotto fade?

That is an excellent point. These guys have to get in the ring to find out what would happen and who is really the best.

There is a blueprint to beat Margarito (see Paul Williams). While Mayweather doesn't have the reach of Williams, he could rack up points early and foreseeably dodge Margarito's pressure in the late rounds to win a decision. The guy IS super quick. I would just like to see it actually happen. The best fighters should fight the best. If you retire, stay retired - don't dodge opponents and cherry pick who you want to fight. Sooner or later Mayweather would lose a fraction of his speed and get caught (see Roy Jones). I want to know how he responds when this happens (Cotto didn't do so well)...

Do ya'll actually think De La Hoya would fight Margarito? Just curious, he did want one more big fight before Mayweather dropped out again.
The mexicans would go crazy over this one...

Comparing Paul Williams to Mayweather is pretty damn funny. That's another guy that pretty boy floyd won't fight.

If De La Hoya doesn't does not give Margarito the same chance Julio Cesar Chavez gave De La Hoya, I will forever dislike him.

Amen, you think mexican's hate him now...The hate will only grow. He may reach Landon Donovan status and be pissing on their stadiums before it's all said and done.

dlh is saying the exact opposite to avoid margarito. he says if he fights margarito, the messicans will hate him. i think it's just to avoid him and fight someone 4 weight classes below him (manny pacquiao)

Yeah, it's a lose/lose in regards to DeLaHoya's relations with Mexican fight fans. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Pacquiao has looked strong going up in weight, don't know about the jump to DeLaHoya though...
