I'm very skeptical about next season, but I'll be saving those thoughts post winter meetings and closer to the season
I'm starting to think trading with Tampa might be the most likely scenario. I honestly wouldn't be opposed to offering a shite ton for Giles instead of Chapman cause he's so cheap and has tons of control

I am too. Our offense had a bunch of low average hitters who struck out a ton, didn't deliver RISP hits and relied a ton on the homerun. I don't know how much you can count on the long ball to be the main source of offense especially when we set a record for most players with double digits homers and the following guys set career highs in homers
Altuve
Valbuena
Rasmus
Gattis
Margo
Conger
I'm not sure I want to throw the farm at Chapman when I'm not sure we've got a team that can repeat or build on last year's success.

We will be better or same player at every position this opening day than last, barring injury(might actually be a fee weeks into the season when we get everyone called up). The rotation should be much better. Now I know people have bad years, but with the youth and vet mix we will be okay.

On a side notes, reed better not be on the opening day roster. Let's wait 10 games and get that extra year. Anyone being rational will agree. Of course we want him on the opening night roster, but it's just not wise business. I hope they work out a gambling deal like with singleton. That deal didn't work out but it was worth the gamble. The deal with reed could include the extra arb year and that would allow him to be on the opening day roster if he deserves it.

… Lance McCullers may be as attractive a piece as the Astros have. Hypothetically, moving him for any closer outside of Chapman logically would not make sense — i.e., someone like Ken Giles of the Phillies. If you’re actually willing to part with McCullers for a less-proven closer, a less-talented closer than Chapman, why not just give McCullers a go in the closer’s role? He throws hard and he’s super confident.
What's the odds they move McCullers this offseason? I would rather them trade Velasquez and another top guy than McCullers

I think Reed gets the chance to start from the get go.
Also, I really don't think McCullers will be moved. Would be so pissed if we moved him for one year of Chapman

Yea and as he said at the end, if you want a closer that bad why not try him there? electric fastball with a nasty breaking ball

Astros lookin at chapman, miller, melancon first. Storen could be a fallback option for them.

I assume Miller is Andrew Miller since all those other guys are relievers?

LMJ is 22 with who has a true traditional aces speed and curve. You don't give that up for a one year rental. Maybe I'm the crazy one but I've seen him mentioned a few times for trade rumors nationally but to me that's insane. He's as untouchable as keuchel and correa.

I don't think there's any way they would trade McCullers unless it's in a trade for a very special younger player with control. I would be extremely pissed if they traded him for Chapman and I don't think there's any chance they do something like that

I think Miller is my favorite of that bunch since there is no guarantee Chapman is with the team after next season.
I'd be nervous about bringing Melancon in. His K rate dropped pretty significantly last season plus the last time he was given an opportunity in the AL, he was crushed to the tune of a 6.2 ERA.
MLB network just mentioned Astros seem to be favoring Ken Giles.

According to @Ken_Rosenthal, the #Dodgers agree to acquire Chapman from the #Reds for two prospects. Chapman is out of the NL Central!

Hmmmmmmm....doesn't seem like much to give up. Urias maybe?
Edit: Urias reportedly not involved. I am really interested to seeing what the return is for Cinci

Trading LMJ would be the definition of full retard.

Don't know who they gave up but it was none of their top 3
Posted on 12/7/15 at 10:34 am to Tigerfan_95
Which befuddles me.
So they probably ask for a ton of top 3-5 prospects from Houston, Houston says no.
Sends to LA for 2 5-10 prospects.
Does that say that Luhnow is a dick? Or he's just not willing to move his top 10 guys for a 1 year guy?
I guess Cincy valuing LA's lower prospects more than Houston?
