Being reported the Astros are not the mystery team talking about Fernandez.
Edit: That's according to Evan Drellich. He says it isn't the Astros

The rumored ask by the Marlins made me think its not Houston, since Luhnow has never been one to sell out for a big name. Now that is not to say he would not acquire a big name, but he is looking for a solid bargain/value first and foremost. And this Fernandez trade would not be a bargain in any way.

I could us being one of the teams interested in Todd Frazier
I'm also all for getting Storen if that "fallback option" thing means he can be had relatively cheaply.

These winter meetings are the suck.

Yeah lots of nothing happening. I would still be surprised if they end without the Astros at least getting bullpen help

Don't frick it up kid.

Yeah they kind of need a final answer on Singleton. If he continues to suck they can always play Margo and/or White there until Reed is ready.

My guess is that he gets a month pending what Reed is doing at AAA. If Singleton is hitting .200 with a 35% K rate going into May and Reed is continuing to hit in the minors, Singleton isn't going to make it much longer.

Luhnow said if they don't land the guys they are targeting, there are 3 or 4 guys they feEl comfortable bringing up.
I can only assume he's talking about White, Duffy, and Reed. Also tells me they feel comfortable bringing those guys up at the moment. They obviously have to prove they are going to consistently hit.

Although given our recent phenomenon of having highly rated 1st baseman wreck shite in the minor leagues only to come to the majors not hit a lick, get demoted, resume hitting in the minors, return to the majors and suck... maybe we should temper expectations on Reed

Maybe they still are targeting a 1B via trade (and they could DH Reed with Gattis if he keeps tearing it up and forces his way up). I took his comments about Singleton as they wouldn't be making a move there, which I'm fine with

I'm high on him, although Carter had the same type numbers in the minors.
I think he's the long term at 1B.
.275 35/95 numbers.
To show I'm not exactly a homer, I don't like Bregman and I think he is basically Jed Lowrie. That's too high of a pick for me.

I don't see Bregman making it to the majors as an Astro. I think he's trade bait sooner or later.

Looks like everyone is wising up to what a bad pick began was.

I never thought Bregman was likely to make it to Houston because of Correa. He was the best pick available at the time (always take your BPA) in a draft that was deeper than it was was top-heavy. I kind of expect he'll be out the door in this offseason's big trade.

Rodgers was the best available, I think he is like a top 10 prospect right now. They had to have liked something about him to take him there. I didn't really like the pick but you have to think they atleast let him make it to the bigs before trading him unless they want to pull off a huge trade

I still think it was the right pick, but we all know it wasn't the big splash we were hoping for. I was hoping for Swanson, but Bregman was the right pick there.
