It's a good trade for both sides. I don't think losing Fisher is that big of a deal and Obie was almost a wasted 40 man spot. Velasquez and Eshelman are the two pieces of value and as others have said we have a few guys like Eshelman who are high floor mid to back rotation arms already in the system. Giles should improve the back end of the bullpen a lot. I think they add one more arm to the pen possibly even with bringing back Sipp

I don't know about adding more to the pen. Let's see what we have:
Giles
Gregerson
Sipp
Neshek
Harris
Fields
---
Hoyt
Freeman (LOOGY)
Chapman (LOOGY)
Peacock
Wojo
Straily
Feldman (if we add a FA SP as expected)
I think they leave some room for guys to earn spots (like Hoyt and a LOOGY). Plus, priority is supposedly on corner IF and another proven SP now.
However, I could see them trading Fields or Harris as part of a deal to upgrade in the late innings. I would love to have Jake McGee, for example.

Yeah I was thinking add another lefty
You would have
Feldman (assuming they add a SP; if not you probably have someone like Wojo, Peacock or Straily as your swingman)
new lefty
Harris
Neshek
Sipp
Gregorson
Giles
They carried two lefties most of last year IIRC. Sipp plus Thatcher then Perez replaced him. You might be right about them just trying a younger guy or perhaps a non roster invite guy

Yeah, I think we sign Kazmir and then try to add another proven lefty in the pen.
Also, the Orioles seem to have gotten temporarily pissed off with Davis/Boras and taken their contract offer off the table. For now, at least.

Yeah, on the rotation thing I guess I'm okay with them resigning Kazmir. It's a little concerning that he has a pattern of fading in August/September. He should come cheaper than signing someone like Chen though, who is looking for 5/85.

Cant blame them. They offered Davis 150 mill over 7 years and he had to think about it... haha Dude is gonna be 30 next year, no way he can continue to drop bombs at his current rate into his mid to late 30s. I said it earlier, but this guy screams Carlos Lee 2.0 to me. Yes he will provide pop, but he will hit below average, and will fade in a few seasons.

You know, I was looking at Kazmir's game logs. He threw no fewer than 91 pitches in each of his first 10 starts last year. I think keeping him on a pitch count early in the season could help keep him fresh later. Maybe only let him throw up to 90 pitches in April.

Maybe have a planned "phantom injury" to justify a DL stint around the all star break

Ole Carlos gets so much undeserved hate. The guy was actually very good as an Astro. I'll take Lee every time over Chris Davis. Lee as an Astro:
.303/.354 43 doubles 32HR 119RBI
.314/.368 27 doubles 28HR 100RBI (115 games, broken hand ended his season)
.300/.343 36 doubles 26HR 100RBI
.246/.291 29 doubles 24HR 89RBI
.275/.342 38 doubles 18HR 94RBI
.287/.336 15 doubles 5HR 29RBI 19 walks/17 strikeouts in 66 games before being traded

I agree lsuhoo. Lee was a great player for us on some bad teams at the end. People just like to bitch about everything. People bitchin we didn't make a move soon enough. People bitch about giving up to much. We could sign trout and someone would bitch.

Yeah, Lee did exactly what we paid him to do. He faded a little toward the end of his contract, which was to be expected. Saying Davis is Lee 2.0 though? Davis can play defense..

Which is why I compare Davis to Lee. No way Davis is cranking out 40-50 bombs a season in the back half of a 7 year deal. Like Lee, I can see Davis producing and justifying his contract for the first 3 to 4 years, but the last 3 he will not be worth his price tag.

Yeah, might as well just sign Gordon and trade Gomez to improve at SP or corner IF.
Posted on 12/10/15 at 5:57 pm to Prominentwon
We would then have to trade either springer or Gomez. We have Rasmus, Gomez and springer, if the want to trade Gomez I would be happy but we don't need a corner outfielder IMO
