Son of a bitch is pulling an Altuve on us. Not a highly regarded prospect but he's going to hit his way onto the ball club.
I hope he gets a look soon. He may not be the prototypical first base slugger but he hits for average, he gets on base and he walks more than he strikes out. (174 to 164 in the minors). If he could bring that skill set to Houston, he'd be a huge asset to the lineup.

Kaz signs with the Dodgers. I wonder what direction they go for an arm (since it seems like they're set on getting one). Hope this doesn't mean we are getting Gallardo

I have been thinking for a couple of weeks now that we are trading for another starting pitcher.

Yeah it could very well be someone out of left field

3 for 48 isn't that much, I wonder if the option after the first year was the difference maker. The way Kazmir has faded down the stretch the last couple years made me a little hesitant on bringing him back.

Still, they can't afford to lose depth in the rotation. They aren't spending money, so it's not like it would've hurt to pay for him.

I'd hate to give up a top draft pick for Gallardo. But if it wasn't for that, he is a much better fit for what the Astros need than Kazmir is. He is still only 29yo, only one season in his career with an era higher than 4 (and that was like 4.10 or something - not like he was brutal), hasn't pitched less than 180 innings in last 7 or 8 years straight (whereas Kazmir has pitched over 180 IP only 4 times in his career), and has a groundball rate that almost doubles Kazmir's. He'll keep the ball in the park more than Kazmir and pitch deeper into games than Kazmir which preserves our bullpen.
We need an innings eater. Having Jabroni, LMJ, and a Kazmir type back-to-back-to back in the rotation where you never know if they'll go 4 ip or 8 ip per start is brutal on a bullpen.

Why? I can't believe he's only 29. I'd rather pay him $48M over 3 than Kazmir. He's freakin durable and solid.
Would have to cut facial hair though

I would be pretty surprised if Gallardo could be had for 3/48. I would think much closer to what Mike Leake got (5/80). I think the one year option and Kazmir's injury history played a big factor in the deal he got.

Article released tonight mentioned that we have not had any contract extension talks with Keuchel FWIW
Been a pretty quiet few seeks outside of the Kazmir signing. Hoping for some action in January or February to hold us over til spring training

HOF inductees will be announced at 5 on MLB Network today. Its looking better but probably not enough for Baggy.
BBHOF Tracker
207/450 ballots have been made public at this point. Bagwell was on 159 of those 207 (76.8%). Bagwell needs 179 of the remaining 243 ballots (73.8%) to get to the necessary 75% of the total votes.
Last year he got 60.5% of the publicly released ballots and 48.4% of the non-public ballots. It looks like he's going to fall just short this year and be on track to get in next year.

with no knowledge of the drop-off from the new voter rules... do we have any idea if the non-public ballots were people that are no longer qualified to vote?
I hope that is the case.
