I want a true ace on staff too, but that is the definition of trade rape.

As much as I want Sale, there's no way in hell I would give up Bregman for him. Springer I would think about, but maybe not even him.

frick trading Bregman.

Throw in Roberson with Sale, they can have Bregman and any 3 from the list.

I'm not saying I would want to do the deal I posted, but if we sign E5 and deal for Sale the favorites to win the AL this year are pretty obvious, even if you're giving up Bregman.
That said that package is hard to wrap the head around

Chris Sale and giving up a stud
Quote is talking about Bregman & Trea Turner btw.

But when including one of these guys, the magnitude of the upgrade becomes a lot smaller. For the Astros or the Nationals, they’d be swapping out a +3 WAR player for a +5 WAR player, which has roughly the same effect on the team’s expected record as, say, signing Josh Reddick. Reddick is a nice player who made the Astros better, but I didn’t hear too many people talking about how that move dramatically changed the course of Houston’s 2017 season.

What we gave up for Giles was a load I can't imagine what JL would give up for an Ace... scary to think about losing Bregman.

I've wondered the last few months how much Bregman being an LSU legend plays a factor in how the DAT wants him to be untradable (yes I know there are plenty of regulars in here that aren't LSU fans)
It's been relieving to see that most Astros fans across the board all over the internet view him the same way
As far as Encarnacion news, as mentioned before I'm not sure you'll see anything happen until the CBA is taken care of, although that hasn't stopped some big deals being made (Cespedes)

Just for fun, let's see where the DAT stands
Upvote if you're on board with dealing Bregs for Sale and becoming what most would view as AL favorites for next couple of seasons
Downvote if you'd rather keep Bregs and find a deal for a different high quality pitcher but not quite Sale (Archer would be the popular rumor but I'm not sure if we could get him without Bregs involved either)
I'll start us off with a downvote

I found a glitch and was able to downvote twice

NYT baseball writer just tweeted this:

Strong indications now that there will be no lockout. Sides seem close enough that they'll get a deal by midnight or extend deadline a bit.

I think Bregman is a player who wins you games in October. People are asking us to trade them our top prospects. Ok, fine - Tucker, Martes, Reed, etc. are on the block. When they ask about Bregman, we need to say "he's not a prospect, he's our starting third baseman" and leave it at that.

Completely agree with that. Our infield has the ability to be special for a long time with Bregs, Altuve and Correa along with a pending Encarnacion signing and eventually Reed/White down the line.

Keep Bregman, sign Beltran and save money to throw at Otani next year.

Jon Morosi just tweeted:
ETA a follow up tweet
quote:
Edwin Encarnacion’s agent, Paul Kinzer, just told me there is “nothing imminent” at the moment for him with a free-agent contract. Edwin Encarnacion has multiple offers in hand, with multiple teams still involved.

Encarnacion’s agent, Paul Kinzer, declined to comment about teams, but #Astros and #Yankees believed to be among remaining suitors. @MLB

White Sox fans have 6 hours to deliver us Encarnacion.

Just came to terms with Nori Aoki, 1 year 5.5 million to avoid arbitration per Jake Kaplan on Twitter.
