would hope so. I like how Stros fans bitch about production but will balk at a legit middle of the order hitter because of money, when they have a low arse pay roll. They have the talent to win now, they are missing a piece like this.
Complain they're too cheap....
Spend money....
Complain too many years.
For all we know, the contract could be front loaded

8:37pm: Actually, all teams will stand to sacrifice draft picks if they sign players who declined qualifying offers, Stark tweets, but at varying levels. Organizations that are over the luxury tax line will punt a second and a fifth-round choice, while those who are under the threshold would stand to sacrifice a third-rounder.

There's no way that's just 2016

so are we getting edwin or is this like all the tom herman to lsu rumors
Posted on 11/30/16 at 8:49 pm to Prominentwon
Definitely not. What would be interesting is to see his doubles put on a map of MMP to see how many more homers, if any, he would hit in Houston

In this day and age of sports bloggers and twitter, if there isn't any of the ~10 most popular baseball writers reporting something...don't believe it

I'm all aboard for 5 years. 6 years is far beyond reasonable value.
What Astros fans are bitching about 5?

I was. But I also said if we signed him, I'd be ecstatic. Even if it was 5 years.

I missed that!

TODAY, 9:13pm: In further comments, Kinzer says that he does not expect a deal to be completed before the Winter Meetings, though he notes that could change if the right offer hits the table. (Via Mark Berman of FOX 26; Twitter links.) While there has been some internet chatter suggesting that there’s a deal in place with the Astros, Kinzer denies the rumors. He does call Houston a “great fit” from Encarnacion’s perspective, though, and acknowledges that there is interest from the team.
Sounds like Kinzer had a deal in place and now that the CBA is done and other teams have more money to spend he wants to open up to the market again. Maybe they agreed to a number with the contingency that the CBA wouldn't allow an increase to the luxury tax.
Or.... Most likely it was wishful thinking on a lot of people's part.

Just about the time rumors start to run wild and I get my hopes up, EE's agent reappears and shits all over the fun.
Posted on 12/1/16 at 8:31 am to MegaTiger3
Nothing. I bet the Yankees are going to drive the price up on him
Posted on 12/1/16 at 8:48 am to MegaTiger3
Well just as soon as I say that, I read an article of Jim Bowden predicting we sign EE because the new luxury tax rules in the CBA won't allow the Yanks as much flexibility as they had hoped.
Posted on 12/1/16 at 8:50 am to dhav14
That's great. When do you think a deal can get done?
Posted on 12/1/16 at 9:01 am to MegaTiger3
It can get done whenever, but I won't pretend to know enough to make a guess.

The Houston #Astros are in heavy pursuit of Edwin Encarnacion or Carlos Beltran, believing they will land one of them

Honestly if Beltran is the consolation I will still be very happy.

Give it up guys. We have our big acquisitions in Morton and Aoki.
