I can't believe that guy is 9
also, does rahy's attny usually run that far? I used to pay attention when the boy worked for Malcolm and they had sterwins run against him all the time. I thought he was better at a mile or a little farther....

Rahy's Attorney had run the distance and beaten the 9 year old, but here is the problem. At Keeneland the grass course has trends that just don't lie. If a horse runs there and doesn't run well, he couldn't return against claimers and beat them. I have seen champion turfers look like pigs there. Secondly if the race is over a mile on the grass, throw the pace out. YOU CAN'T WIN UP FRONT. Third, the 5 path out in the lane is the best place to be. The footing is better. The local riders know this and that's where they try to be. That chick that rode RA yesterday should have done some research. That was the easiest race to handicap of all time.

Anyone have any thoughts on animal kingdom after this morning?
His daddy is having quite the year
too bad he's a stonewall horse.

I don't think he has near the class to be a contender. His connections are good and the jock is as hot as ever. When is the last time a horse from a Turfway prep has been worth anything? Brian's Time?

I really wish ky would get rid of the poly bullshite. It makes me sad.
The more I study this race, the more I'm inclined to just draw numbers out of a hat for my boxes

I am torn on it because it is causing less breakdowns but it's so unpredictable. Since Keeneland owns the company that makes it, I highly doubt they will change for a long time. Hell, they were the last major track in the US to get an announcer.

I've been watching rolex and they keep showing derby ads. I'm still getting really excited even though it's a crap race

i don't think it's a crap race!! i'm starting to like that there's no clear cut fave. yeah it's hard as shite to handicap but this is going to be a really interesting race to watch and the season going forward. we could end up having a year like 07 when Curlin came out of nowhere to win horse of the year.

here's a replay of the Spiral Stakes if y'all haven't seen it or rewatched it. LINK
if that's not a Derby type move by Animal Kingdom I don't know what is. also, word is he's taken nicely to the CD surface.
also watching that race again I can definitely see Decisive Moment going out with Shackleford early.

notes from today:
Today's Derby contender works included a five furlong bullet from Santa Anita Derby hero Midnight Interlude. Arkansas Derby runner-up Nehro also completed his Derby preparations on Monday, along with Santiva and Watch Me Go.
#2 Nehro – 4f breeze in :51.20 (34/38) at Churchill Downs.
#7 Midnight Interlude – 5f bullet in 1:00.80 (1/7) at Churchill Downs.
#16 Santiva – 4f in :50.20 (20/38) at Churchill Downs.
#19 Brilliant Speed - 5f in 1:01.20 (3/7) at Churchill Downs.
#27 Watch Me Go – 5f in 1:02 (4/7) at Churchill Downs.
Santiva galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.71 with Shaun Bridgmohan aboard. Midnight Interlude is a strong worker and Monday’s move was his 4th straight bullet drill dating back to April 4. Nehro did not gallop out well in 1:04.48. Watch Me Go was full of energy and got a mile in 1:45.14. Dialed In galloped a mile and a half on a wet Monday morning under the Twin Spires.

The spiral is what actually makes me think decisive moment can sit just off comma and shackleford. After his risen star, it was nice to see him ok with something else with the lead.
If it's rainy, soldat gets another chance with me ;)

Ow much will a sloppy track affect your choices this year? Who hates an off track?
Worries me a bit that nehro had to be pushed so much and didn't seem to like it
and what is a creative way to do my derby pool this year?

in the slop i like Toby’s Corner, Pants on Fire and Mucho Macho Man. maybe Midnight as well; he hasn't been working all that well so far.. but has at least run on a wet CD track.

i'm about 90 percent positive that Nehro won't be on any of my wager slips.
