Well to be fair a QB's job is to make his receivers better than what they are.

is it also the QBs job to improve the OL also?

The #1 overall pick always goes to a shitty team.

yeah but the raiders post-gruden have taken shitty management to a new level

i don't say this as a homer. it's reality

hell they couldn't even seal the deal with a college coach who was praying to get an NFL offer. they got turned down by a collegiate co-offensive coordinator also. before that they had to hire art shell b/c nobody else would take the job.

Curry was coming off a very good season 50+ catches 700+ yards.

that's a very good season??? 45 yards per game? Curry is a #3 WR, has never had 750 yards in a season, only had 2 or 3 remotely productive seasons in his 7 year career, and has started less than half of his career games.

Javon Walker has been done for 2 years. Signings like that by the Raiders are a big part of the problem. Terrible decision.

Lelie is done also. Dude is a head case, hasn't done shite since 2005, and doesn't have have his old top end speen anymore.

Russell basically has a good TE, a #3 WR in Curry, a KR turned WR trying to learn the position (Higgins), and rookie WR with questionable route running ability.

it does sound like JR could be putting in more work, and that's on him

JR could do more....but he is fricked in OAK. D-Mac, DHB, Javon Walker???? all really stupid "flashy" moves.

On the flip side: how much was Elways salary at the time compared to Russells?

The Raiders were dead last in passing offense last year. Blaming the Raiders for everything, which JR apologists love to do, is a joke.

a team with the worst WRs in the league and the worst pas blocking OL will likely be worst in passing

he wasn't close to the worst QB in the NFL at the end of last year

shite JRs passer rating (regular season) was 3 points below the SB winning QB's passer rating

And by the end of the year, you mean the last 3 game right?

That's just spin though Slo and you know it. Do you really think the the difference between the 2 players is that small? I hope not. JR was 26th in terms of passer rating in the NFL.

not really

the 2 teams in the superbowl had a journeyman QB and big ben, who threw up an 80 rating in 2008

i've been saying this for years. to have a great team, you need a great team. to have a winning QB, you need a winning team

i'm not saying JR is a winner, but goddamn he has a shite sandwich all around him. similar situations killed tim couch and david carr. it has nothing to do with JR being from LSU. it has to do with similar patterns of young QB killing

Ben played significantly better in the playoffs tan he did in the regular season.

Do you think the Steelers are a playoff team next year with JR at QB? I like stats and they definitely matter, but leadership means a lot at QB.

I know JR is your guy slo, nothing wrong with that.

absolutely. They were easily one this year with weak QB play.

if he had been on pitt since his rookie year, likely

JR and big ben actually are similar. big guys who have big arms and try to make big plays (sometimes good, sometimes bad) who don't put in work in the offseason. ben has had some shitty years

quote:

but leadership means a lot at QB.

leadership like calling out your WRs and GM publicly b/c you don't have a "big" WR?

which actually leads to a funny side note. big ben and plax were bff. big ben took after plax's "don't give a shite in the offseason" mentality, and that's why the steelers wouldn't re-sign him

then plax goes and leads the giants to the superbowl (With eli, another guy who was pretty shitty without talent around him and a great D)

Ben's passer rating by year, reg season only:

04 98
05 99
06 75
07 104
08 80
Career 89.4

He's a good QB who had an average year last year. To act like Big Ben is just an average QB in a good situation is ridiculous.

no, he had a well below average year last year compared to other NFL starters. The Steelers would have still been a playoff team with Russell at QB, without a doubt.

Its definitely not "without a doubt." Stats ain't everything for a QB.

Anyone coached under Kiffin to start his NFL career deserves to start fresh. I am sorry, but that idiot couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag, and people want to harp on JR? None of the QBs were successful in Oakland.
