It was held at U-Club last year, but I don't think the easy course had anything to do with them changing it

Thats correct. Uclub is going through a redesign project by Toms and Jim Lipe. I think its supposed to re-open around the middle of September. I'd imagine the Adams event will probably go back to Uclub next year, unless they really like Santa Maria.

I played in the Pro-am today at Santa Maria. I agree with a 20 under estimate for a winner. Greens are very receptive. Three of the Par 5's will play very easy for these guys. Par 4's are not very long, nor tight. A couple of the par 3's could play difficult.

How is Santa set up this week? I'm sure the pins are tucked and greens are fast, but interested to see what changes they made to it.

pins were all tucked...they claimed that they grew the greens out for a while, then cut them early this week, to add speed...the guy i was caddying for(he's from br and has played there a bunch) said that the greens felt rather slow to him..(im sure the shite-ton of rain had something to do with that)...

they also used some tougher tee boxes this week than they do for other tourneys (today even more than yesterday).

.ive been out there for the baton rouge open and other tourneys like that, and they were using the "normal" tips...they were a full tee box back(when available) and in the back of them for this tourney..

a few examples: 2 was 187, 5 was 218, and 17 was 175

he played ok...not as well as ive seen him play before, but ok...

we had a little mishap on #14..he hit a drive left-into the trees...we were pretty sure it wasnt gone, but we couldnt find it..we finally found it in that little shallow stream next to the trees... adding to the problem we had the clock called on our group earlier, so we couldnt take as long as we wanted to to make a decision on what to do..

he decided to hit it out, and failed the first attempt..then he hit it out backwards, etc. etc., and ended up getting a triple on the hole...with all that drama he still finished at 73 today..

I decided to stay the night even though I missed the cut. Will head home tomorrow.
Did not play all that bad today. 74 with two drives OB and not making much of anything..

I was paired with the two leaders after day one and beat them both today .. So I guess this old beat up fat boy has a little game left in him.

May hold off on buying that boat for a little while
