Catholic's kicker did not shank the 20 yard field goal at the end of regulation. #27 Hezzy Washington came off the edge and blocked the field goal. I was there. 7-6.

He blocked the extra point not the last FG on the game.

I was there too. The final field goal was missed. The extra point was blocked.

It doesn't matter, at the end of the night, Denham Springs made more plays than Catholic did and the Yellow Jackets came out victorious. 7-6.

Isn't high school football great? Anything can happen! You were up late last night too! Last year Central stomped Denham, Denham beat Catholic (I heard Catholic wasted time at the end of the game and lost on the sidelines, but I WAS NOT THERE), Catholic stopped Scotlandville and Scotlandville gave Central its only regular season loss. My point is they beat up each other. The last two times Live Oak played Scotlandville, it ended 21-14 and 7-0 (both very competitive). These things happen all the time. Catholic may surprise me and will no doubt have a great defense, but don't discount Scotlandville's athletes and Denham should have a good D. Playing good teams back-to-back-to-back is tough and Caholic will no doubt have tough games out of district.

The Davis kid at Central though will have a big year. He outjumps everybody for the ball and gets big yards after catch. Live Oak wishes they had a receiver like that....it could have meant 6-3 or 7-2 last year easy, instead of 4-5.

This year, I think there will be 4 playoff teams from the district, as there are only 9 districts and fewer than 60 teams in 4A and strength of schedule for our teams will help. Trust me, I hope Denham and Scotlandville are down, because LO could possibly pick up another win then.

That blocked PAT was one of the top plays of the year. The Liv. Parish News ran a photo and he was parallel to the ground and about 5' off the ground, coming off the edge, to get a piece of the ball. It was very impressive. And look at the difference it made....possibly keeping Catholic out of the playoffs.

you are correct sir. and that's why belittling coaches is so ridiculous. all of those guys at any schools do whatever it takes to win. i'm sure the DC at central isn't mad that wiener got a lot of recognition, he is probably pretty excited that they held Acadiana to 7 points though. at the end of the day i'm sure he sleeps pretty well lol

You are correct too! These are 15-18 yr old kids and coaches who love helping kids, put in long hours and try as hard as they can to win. There has to be a winner and a loser. Sometimes it hurts and idiots criticize coaches and what's worse, criticize kids, but get a life. In 2007 Live Oak was 5-5 and at the banquet, the coach correctly said, we could easily have gone 8-2 or 2-8. Everybody makes mistakes, coaches and kids have other responsibilities and stresses, etc. But the only thing more fun than high school football for a fan is college football. Friday nights are special. I gave Oliver..... a hard time because he said LO would go 0-6 in district and they are my team, and I know he is 100% behind Catholic, but if the effort is there, the chips will fall where they should. But good lord, when you're out there, keep your head on a swivel. Especially against defenses and special teams like Central's and Catholic's. I know Sid and he is a good guy who cares about his family, his players and his coaches. He puts together good staffs and let's them coach.....they don't have jealousy...just guys who want to win.

What's wrong with hype? Screw it, Engemann is the next Jon Gruden!!!!! If the kids are excited and ready to play then the hype around the coaches is obsolete. I'm guilty myself of complaining about refs, coaches, kids, etc. But, when you look at the big picture, it's all a game. Central vs Catholic in the Dome, 2009!!!!! No, wait... Acadiana vs ESJ!!!, no wait...

The beauty of the sport, nobody knows! Hopefully it's a great season with NO hurricanes and minimal injuries.

What a Laugh. Denham Springs dude claiming resounding victory last year. 1st time in? 20 years?

Plus, you should have lost that game, many times over.

quote:

i understand you should let the kids have fun, but again, I think that you should always conduct your team with professionalism and class, and I just don't think that did any of those things. If your kids can't have fun by blowing at a huge rival in a district game, then they shouldn't be playing the game. You don't need antics like that to have fun.

You must be proud of your team after the Game with Catholic High, you shake hands, then during your alma mater, our team stood respectfully still, then during the CHS alma mater, your whole team acted like a bunch of idiots - jumping around, screaming, looked like a bunch of wild animals.

I guess that goes to show you..... trash is always trash...

Dehnam Springs ...... Professionalism and Class, not two things that you usually use in the same sentence.

Wow. I’m not sure why you feel the need to knock on some of the coaches I’ve worked with before. I guess we all need to be straightened out every now and then. Thank you for keeping us all straight.

As for some of the coaches I’ve worked with or do work with, being jokes…What makes a coach great? His players respect him? His players play hard? They know their assignments? Their players win games? Sounds like very every player Clark Engemann has coached.

Defense wins championships. Without Doug Dotson (DC @ CHS), Central HS does not have the same season. Ask anybody from Central and they will tell you first and foremost Defense and Special Teams is what helped us advance in the play-offs. Just like John Curtis and Destrehan (you correctly labeled their offenses as explosive) if you look at their success this season they won with Defense and Special Teams, not their offense. Destrehan scored a defensive TD in both the Semi’s and the Finals. John Curtis scored on Defense and Special Teams versus Evangel in the Finals.

As for me (“Barrack O’Weiner” – as I was labeled by an esteemed colleague because of media attention) I have certainly benefited in my career by having great players and great coaches on the same staff. I have been an asst. and rode the coattails of two highly successful head coaches (Dale Weiner and Sid Edwards). I got my first Head Coaching job because of my last name and because Redemptorist went to the Dome 3 out of 4 years I was there. It certainly had nothing to do with my coaching ability. At CHSPC the players won the 1st District Championship in 15 seasons and went 10-0 for the first time since 25 years because we had great players and I had assistant coaches that were smarter than me.

At Central…I walked into a great situation. The year before the QB Coach and OC did an incredible job in training the QB’s. Chris Towery is without a doubt the premier QB coach in LA HS Football. I without a doubt reaped the fruit of his labor. If the QB and WR had not been leading the BR area in passing/receiving I would have never gotten the publicity I did.

Now 4 coaches that have had a well-documented track record of success have decided at the same time to join the coaching staff at Zachary. Once again, this receives attention because of their success, but my name gets thrown in there again. It is unusual for a high school football staff to get this much attention. I guess we will all have to wait see how it turns out.

As for you lbradysu, if you really are a salesman, you should stop by my office. I would love to see your product. I am always looking for a good fundraiser. You could probably teach me a lot about the game, too.

Feel free to stop by or call anytime.

GREAT POST not Good But great. Clark E is one of the best coaches I have been around and so is Niel, I hate reading stuff from COACHES that have never coached with either one of them, There is a reason some people are where they are at and others are not, its not about the chalk board its about relationships with people and with the kids we coach. I have coached with many OC's and Niel is by far the best one I have been around. Clark is a guy that can do anything, he never complains and always gets the job done. Oh yea and the KIDS (who its about) love playing for them. And I believe Niel was to nice in his post. Niel, Clark, Kendell, Thanks for what you helped us accomplish this past year, I look foward to a great game with yall next year.
