that's y'all have sunk to the level of actually trying to downgrade the Kansas City run of all things is pretty incredible
you've already admitted you don't think Marino would have won as much as Joe had he been on the 49ers. So what are we even talking about then?

Thought they were good enough to defeat the Redskins in Super Bowl XXII, Denver usually consisted of good defenses with players like Rulon Jones, Mecklenburg, Dennis Smith, Mark Haynes that 2nd Quarter will never happen again in Super Bowl history I give Williams and the Hogs credit but that quarter was a fluke those things rarely if ever happen

there was no one player more responsible for the Chiefs being the AFCCG that year than Montana.

Not detracting from Montana but Marcus Allen did score the clinching TD in the divisional round in the Astrodome against the team everyone picked to play Dallas in the Super Bowl, just thought I’d offer that out there

A defense with Neil Smith and Derick Thomas?

How about those 3 seasons Montana and the 49ers were eliminated from the postseason by the Giants and Vikings? Blown out 49-3 in 86 at the Meadowlands and submitted maybe the worst performance of his career in 87 against the Vikings AT HOME WITH THE NO. 1 OFFENSE IN THE NFL AND THE NO. 1 OVERALL SEED, man that mental dominance DS alleges sure was lacking those games, I recall he was benched that Vikings game too lol

OMG HE HAD A BAD GAME HERE AND THERE

Not something I made up, the people who played with and against him allege it as well. I guess you know better than they do though?

both those guys had been on the Chiefs for awhile, why was that their first AFCCG appearance then?

OMG HE HAD BAD GAMES IN GAMES WITH HIGH STAKES which was basically the basis of your entire argument against Marino, 2 can play at that game Sherlock

That Chiefs defense wasn’t as good as the one that lost to Miami with DeBerg at QB. That game is when I truly believed it was Marty not Cleveland that was cursed.

Montana is famous for elevating his game in the playoffs...absurdly so.
He had a higher passer rating in the playoffs and rarely threw an INT.
Marino did not elevate his game in the playoffs. In fact, his played dropped off quite noticeably. Marino has a career regular season passer rating of 86.4. His postseason passer rating was just 77.1. He played in 18 playoff games, and won just eight of them.
In his one Super Bowl appearance (a 38-16 loss to the 49ers in Super Bowl XIX), Marino completed 29 of 50 passes for 318 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs. It adds up to a weak 66.9 passer rating.
Remember that 1998 Miami team that had the best defense in football? It made the playoffs, but Marino failed to hold up his end of the bargain. The season ended in the second round of the playoffs, with Marino coughing up two interceptions against Denver and posting a passer rating of just 65.5. Yet another opportunity for Marino to win a Super Bowl tossed into the hands of an opposing defender.
In fact, Marino threw at least one interception in 13 of his 18 career playoff games. He threw two or more interceptions 10 times. The Dolphins went just 1-9 in those 10 Marino multi-interception playoff games.

Yes, but they were overwhelmed by the generally more physical NFC teams.

No, it was that Marino was not a winner and failed on the big stage at every point in his career. Not all of that is on him but over his entire career it was a pattern, the opposite pattern was true of Montana.
When you're talking about the best of the best of the best you have to look for the little things to separate them, and while team success might not be a completely fair way to do it it's also farcical to try to diminish the effect a Joe Montana had on the game in those big moments. Was the supporting cast really that much better or maybe Montana just inspired confidence is his teammates when the game was on the line. That's the story they tell but i'm sure it was the system or whatever.

The only game the Broncos should’ve won was Redskins. If they don’t blow the Williams fumble and Denver scores there it may have been over, but they blew the call and Williams hit a dart then Smith took their soul.
