Okay, that too.
He really is. He wouldn't shut up about how it was a foregone conclusion that Big Brown would win the Triple Crown.
Mine That Bird finished the final half in about 47 and 1/5 seconds and the final quarter in 23 1/5. The final time wasn't anything special though...2:02 and 3/5.

I've injected my horse with Bute before. I didn't really agree with it, but it was my trainer's decision and I figured she knew more than me.
I just don't like messing with stuff like that.

and while we are on the subject of arrogant pricks I'm secretly happy that pletcher is 0 for 24 or something in the derby. His interview after the fla derby made me want to puke. He saw all week how the track was running and he chose to run there anyway. Stop whining.

I think it was Nick Zito who had five horses in the Derby one year. The Blood Horse and the media made this huge deal about it for weeks, and then none of his horses placed. I laughed.

I'm not saying it is always wrong. Lord knows anybody who deals with horses has used bute. I just think it has it's time and place...
You have a tb? What do you do with your horse?

Oh I don't think so either, it just worried me that I wouldn't be able to feel something wrong if I was riding him and could make the situation worse. That's really my issue with Bute. It's not as big of a deal with jumping, but in a high stress situation like racing, you could seriously injure a lot of people if your horse suddenly goes down with no warning.
I don't have a TB, I have an Oldenburg. I used to jump him and do dressage, but I don't have much time anymore sadly.

I remember that! My bf feels the same way about assmusen but at least he is a nice guy (or knows how to pretend).
I guess his wife doesn't feel that way, though. He must buy her very expensive things

Ahhhh... You have an expensive horse. I've only had the pleasure of riding a few warmbloods. I rode arabs and saddlebreds for 15 years before I moved to la and joined the equestrian team. Then I learned to jump(a little out of order, huh). I've never done any dressage, but I would like to one day.

Asmussen's been suspended for drugs quite a few times before also.
My friend used to be an exercise rider and she told me how some of those drugs could turn a perfectly normal and calm horse into a very dangerous/crazy horse.
I first started riding hunters. I did that from age 8 until I was in high school, then switched to dressage.
I love him, but he is basically just a giant baby. He's scared off so many riders by spooking at things that I don't know what to do with him. It doesn't bother me because I'm used to it, and have gotten very good at holding on.

just walk down the shed row and count how many horses lunge at you , and not just studs. It's crazy. I was making an attempted joke about stevie boy's MANY girlfriends that he apparently flaunts. Remember when biancone got caught with cobra venom? Scary shite.

I don't get it...how do you train horses like All Along and Lion Heart, but are still desperate enough to inject things like that into your horse?

Have you ever read Gary Steven's book? He talks about how he hates the drug problem because they aren't just damaging the horses, they're putting the jockey's life in danger.

I haven't read it but I've heard it's good

It's a great book. I also love William Nack's book on Secretariat and Ruffian: Burning From the Start (that one always gets to me!)

I usually try to stay away from horse books. They make me cry.
Posted on 5/5/09 at 2:51 am to Aspercel
I highly suggest not reading the book about Ruffian then!

I know! I picked up this book called chosen by a horse against my better judgement and it was the saddest thing I ever read. Very good... But very sad

I've never read that. I'll have to read it sometime. I've read so many books on horse racing it's not even funny. I love reading about history like that. I've read a lot of books on Man o' War, Citation, War Admiral..etc. And of course Seabiscuit was great.

I had a bit of a hard time with seabiscuit. I just really didn't enjoy her writing. A book that size should have taken me a day or so, but it took me 2 weeks cause I kept putting it down and picking something else up.
