Could very well be. I've known 3 guys who've had a foot amputated due to diabetes after getting an open wound that got infected and they couldn't get it to heal and eventually got so bad it was either the foot goes or you will die.


Two of the guys were heavy drinkers and were told to quit to give themselves a better chance to heal. They didn't and one lost one foot while the other lost both feet and wound up in a wheelchair until he died several months later.
