I have been to Live Oak's games this year and the drops have been BAD! About 6 drops vs. EA in the Jamboree, 3 critcal drops against Ponchatoula in the first half in Poch's red zone, 4 against St. Michaels that cost the game (one in the end zone), about 6 against Glen Oaks that ended up costing the game. Against Zachary, #10 had a drop, but the game was effected by fumbles after the catch, not drops. These are the losses. In the wins against Lee and Riverdale, there were also costly drops. If half of these balls had been caught, the team would have 2 more wins and about 200-300 more yards passing. #3, who plays D and is a part time receiver, has the best hands on the team - he is a go to receiver.

Dude, you graduated from high school in 2004 and have won 3 state titles coaching! Wow! Hunh!

Nice! High School Sports? Given your young age, can I assume you are an arse't Coach? What sport?

You gotta love high school sports? Kids drop balls. Kids fumble. Kids bite and get burned. Kids miss tackles...some are terrified out there! Coaches choke! Kids choke! Fans are idiots! Parents are idiots! Parents and coaches scream at each other! And it should be fun! Kids will look back and realize what a great time it was, but when they are in school, it's tough. These are 15-17 year old kids mostly. We all just take it too seriously sometimes. Leaders emerge though and character is built and revealed and those who play learn about teamwork and how to maintain busy schedules, etc. I like the old days though, when you just play what is in season for three months, then move to the next sport.

Yea, I coached Basketball I am out of it right now because I need to finish college I got a few years left because basketball got in my way of it. So I am getting my degree then coaching somewhere as a head coach right off the bat since I have a great resume. That is all I will say about it because I will try to keep my identity on wraps.

I can tell you the boys on the LO O-line loved the Zachary field, good footing, good push and no hurt knees. I don't know about the skinny guys.
At Zachary, Zachary went up 6-0 in the first qtr. Then LO took over. The OL BLOCKED GREAT, Bell lead the offense & passed well and Hughes and Crowsen ran well. The Defense was aggressive and played well, forcing the Zachary QB into 3 or 4 turnovers, which helped LO. Bell ran one in to make it 6-0, Bell audibled to a Crowsen run and Crowsen ran one in to make it 12-6 and then Bell connected with Switzer on a 27 yd TD pass to the front corner of the end zone (beautiful throw and catch) to put Live Oak up 18-6. The PAT's were mismanaged though. They should have kicked the first to make it 7-6, but they ran a trick play out of the swinging gate. The problem is that the Zachary coaches saw it work twice on film (once the week before against Lee) and were waiting for it, so it didn't work. Then LO tried to kick the PAT's on the next two, but the regular holder was out sick, one kick got partially blocked and the other hit the bar/post and was no good. On the second and third PAT's, I probably would have gone for 2. The Bell to Switzer TD pass was with 58 seconds left in the first half.
Then LO had a breakdown in the secondary and Zachary connected on a 25 yd pass, in which the receiver got behind the corner and safety, and the receiver turned it into a 61 yard TD with 16 seconds left in the first half to make it 18-12. LO’s starting corner was out sick and starting safety was on the sideling wearing a sling because he got hurt in the JV game. This play pumped up Zachary and deflated Live Oak. LO was in control, up 18-6 and BANG, its 18-12 and the MOJO has shifted. In the second half, the score advanced to 24-19 with LO leading and driving. Then LO lost a fumble on the Zac 15 yd line after a completed pass for a first down, then Zac fumbled it back to LO on their 35 or so. LO drove again and lost another fumble in the red zone after another completed pass for a first down. Then Zac ran through our defense easily and went up 25-24. Had Crowsen (about 200 lbs and solid) and Bell (210 and solid) pounded the ball up the middle, behind LO’s HUGE AND GOOD LINE THAT AVERAGES ABOUT 270, instead of trying to go outside and not getting the ball cut up field, LO never would have had to throw on the two third down plays that resulted in fumbles and LO would have gone up 31-19. (On the other hand, they weren’t bad plays calls as both were completed for first down yardage). One of the O lineman, who let's just say I know very, very well, told me Zac was on it's heels, couldn't have stopped LO, and if LO had pounded it in up the middle, they would have scored in another 2 or 3 plays on both drives. After Crowsen's 9 yd TD run in the first half, keep giving that boy the ball. Our interior line play in the 2nd half was AWESOME. Then after Zac scored again, LO could easily have pounded the ball and run out the clock. Instead, LO found themselves down 25-24, had to throw more and had a 3rd first down reception fumbled away deep in their own territory and Zac tacked on a last minute cheap touchdown to make it 31-24. Had LO gone prevent and the DB’s let no one get behind them at the end of the first half, had LO pounded the ball with Crowsen, Bell and Hughes behind Crowsen and run clock, LO would have gone up 31-19 and won. Credit Zachary though...they hit hard and part of their stated strategy was to go for strips and they forced fumbles. LO guys didn't just run along on their own and drop balls. Everyone on the LO team played hard and this game showed LO’s recent improvement. They now play games close that have been ugly losses in years past, but they aren’t yet winning these games.

so do you coach at LO or what?
Posted on 10/28/08 at 3:18 pm to thatguy
no, but it was a frustrating result for the coaches and kids. it was a physical game and I know it made it hard to get up for Glen Oaks. After the LO-Zac game, both teams lost the next week. Zac looked lethargic and LO, with some of the starters sick, got behind and struggled.

Did you play at Live Oak? I so, what were your favorite games?
Posted on 10/28/08 at 4:28 pm to Livingston25

What years? Since 2001, they have won at least 2 every year, right. 6,6,3,2,2,2,5 and this year will be 4 or 5 wins.
Posted on 10/28/08 at 4:51 pm to Livingston25
i was there from 02-06. my 1st year we lost to karr in the playoffs, then won 3,2,2 I believe.

So your Senior year was the Katrina year, when Riverdale got cancelled and you played PJP twice, beating them the first time and then getting beat bad at home. One of the teams at least made adjustments before the second game.
You had some good games your frosh year - won 6. You lost to Walker and made the playoffs when they didn't. You beat PJP, Elton, etc. CW and RC went both ways and scored a ton of TD's. KF played with a cast on his arm. (Live Oak could use CW and RC both ways every year-every screen pass went for at least 20). Your second year was the Dutchtown game when you barely kept them out of the end zone the entire second half and hung on and when CW ran for 300+ against Riverdale, when he carried the ball on about 46 of 54 plays and everybody knew he was getting the ball - your QB was like 1 for 9 with 3 pics but you won. (3 wins that year). Then your junior year was the PJP win in OT with the fake field goal - that was a good win and you all handled Riverdale. Everybody needs Riverdale on the schedule, but in '08 those boys have 2 wins. Then your Sr. year, the PJP games and a win at home vs. Albany. You should have beat Springfield that year, but missed a last second field goal that was close and lost to Zeke Jones in OT. I think everybody was tired of tackling him. It was fun watching DG at linebacker, tossing his cookies on the field. The D kept games tight, but the O struggled. You should have good memories and football does bond like nothing else. I'm sure I know who you are, but would have to know your number and that could violate the secrecy here.

Yeah DG had the kind of heart that has been/is missing in many LO athletes. He gave it his all. We also should have beat Springfield but SM had to fumble the damn kickoff when nobody was even around him. Oh well. I had good memories that will last forever. I really would lie to know how you are so knowledgeable about LO. It's killing me
eta: that fake field goal was the shite

I remember that fumble and the other back, KW, fumbled like on the Springfield 5 when you all were about to score. I think one time SM was going to score too and literally his body got in front of his legs and he fell. DG walked on to Belhaven last year and has made the roster and plays some this year. He is perfect on kickoff coverage. The fake field goals in one of those funky things...if the ball hadn't been caught, you would have lost and the coaches would have been idiots. At least you won 2 instead of 1 and everybody still thought they were idiots.

so you ever gonna tell me your connections?

I'm glad I graduated from Walker before the total decline.
That game against LOHS in '02 was a great one. The atmosphere was pretty electric. It's a damned shame we couldn't make the playoffs that season. We knocked off Belaire, LOHS, and Zachary to finish the season that year and finished 4-6. I think we got snubbed by .02 power points. It was a close finish from #32-34 that season in 4A.

That sucks! Live Oak had that happen last year. They finished the season with a win over Istrouma to finish 5-5 and 2nd in district. Istrouma was 4-6 and third in district. After the game, the Istrouma coach said in the paper that he was bummed Live Oak would make the playoffs and not them and then Istrouma finished 32 and Live Oak 33, just barely behind. Live Oak had a weaker schedule with Riverdale and Lee on it, so they got screwed i think.
