The old Aeros of the WHL with Gordie and his sons.

That was awesome.

Houston, TV ratings of the NBA Finals were about 27 million viewers. The USA v Ghana match in the round of 16 in the 2010 World Cup was around 24.5 million viewers. Say the US got to the semis. That number would have blown away the NBA Final game number. Soccer is growing and will only get bigger. ESPN's marketing execs know this, so should you.

Yeah but we see the NBA finals once a year. What if they only played it once every four years?

And I watched both of those. I'll admit, that was an exciting soccer game (match?).

The NBA has been a relevent sport since the early 50's. Soccer is a very young sport here. More kids are playing it and the immigrant base is going to continue that trend.

Here is a tidbit of info for you. The Champions League Final used to be played on a Wednesday. The TV ratings in the US for the 2008 Final with ManU and Barcelona were big enough in the US to make UEFA change the finals to the weekend.

The game has an ardent following and it is growing.

Would the NBA finals game still get 25 million viewers if it was played at 2:00 pm?

MLS just had its best attended season ever. The league is averaging over 17,000 fans per game.

And put that into perspective, the MLS is probably about 10th-15th best Soccer league in the World, and STILL out-draws the NBA and NHL, both of which are clearly the best leagues in the World in their respective sports.

Soccer has come so far in the U.S.
