STFU!!
you must have reading comprehension problems tonight, peej. I said Florida has better athletes, but FOOTBALL (as a sport) is bigger in Texas.
Examples:
Katy High
Euless Trinity
Southlake Carroll
not to mention Odessa Permian's sellout records.

People are putting way to much stock in the raw numbers
Perhaps but I don't care about rankings. I like the numbers just to keep in mind when discussing stuff like that.
But you have to put a limit on the stock you put on the numbers because of the variables, schedules, injuries, int's that are included in the stats, and then deciding which ones matter, etc.
I like to mainly keep up with scoring defense.

Texas D may not be USC, but they are not one of the worst in the country despite their ranking.
Probably so

If you had that same D in the Big 10 or ACC, they would not be 110, more like 40-50.
I wouldn't make that comment. I don't think the SEC offenses are the way they are because they lack premier coaching and athletes and an inability to score like Big 12 units, but perhaps because they face defenses in a conference that puts out more defensive players to the NFL than any other conference, so they say and has always been known for stiffling defenses.

I just don't see Mack retiring any time soon. Maybe I'm wrong though. I didn't think Will would want to wait another 7-8 years.
Maybe, maybe not.
Even if he did wait, it's not like his financial statement is gonna be all messed up. He'll still be the head coach at Texas one day and still make money, still have good athletes and still have nice facilities. I doubt they'll sign him up for this and then back out on it once Mack steps down.

If it's only 2 or 3, then hell yeah, wait that out.
I agree. I can only imagine how many coaches out there are wishing right now they had gotten the deal Will just received. I imagine many coaches get into the business wanting a job like Texas. And get paid almost a million bucks to just coordinate the defense? You can't beat it with a stick.
Sure, he could have gone somewheres like Clemson or Tennessee if offered and made more money earlier but those places don't always get the athletes that Texas does and there would be no guarantee that Texas would hire him down the road.
Nobody knows how this will work out in the long term. He may never win a game, or he may win more games and titles than Mack. There's only one way to find out.
In the short run, like I said, it's a great deal...it's helps on the recruiting trail, it helps them winning the rest of their games so they can start real high in the polls next fall and if Mack wants to win another conference and BCS title, this is the way to do it.

And where did Texas reach out for a coach? FSU's own Mack Brown.
