Nope. Actually I'm more of a college fan but it's amusing how triggered college fans get about the NFLs success.

I always see a lot of the same posters bitching that they're done, yet there they are in every game thread

I love both NFL and college, but if anything, it seems like college teams are the same. Bunch of spread, random arse kids you don't know.

NFL at least has star power. Until they all get hurt

I really feel like people underestimate the importance of Manning and Brady. They were the Kobe and LeBron of the NFL. Take both of those guys out of the equation and the interest in the sport just won't be the same. Aaron Rodgers is a fabulous QB but he'll never come close to reaching that level of popularity. Same thing with Cam Newton although it might be a little too early to write him off.

Wow. But doesn't surprise me. The NFL has lost its luster. It's actually very boring.

For most of the games, it seems like the crowd is muted.

Spot on and I can't figure it out. It's like a conscious decision has been made to be dull as hell in the booth. It's like that jaded, big-city northeasterner attitude has infected the game. Don't show your emotions or someone might judge you. frick that shite I want to feel emotion. Football is supposed to be an emotional game!

Hell if the announcers can't even get excited for a touchdown why should I give a shite?

They are muting the college crowds this year also if you'll notice. A couple years ago they were amplifying it so much you could hardly hear the announcers.

The people in charge are masters at enhancing production value and branding. They know what works and what doesn't. I'm not sure why they are taking the game this route from that standpoint. They are re-branding the game (already have) and it's not for the better IMO.

I love all of the people in this thread whooping it up hoping that the NFL fails ( it won't) then in the next sentence saying how they only like college ball.

You realize that college football is the NFL's minor leagues right? Without that monetary draft incentive ncaa football instantly becomes the equivalent of college lacrosse athlete wise. Or at the very least - the best schools academically now have the highest "value" to recruits since the actual education is the reason to play football now. So long SEC

A normal NFL sunday looks like this

5am - NFL am hangover can't sleep breakdown
7am - NFL is church really necessary today
8am - NFL countdown to NFL countdown
10am - NFL countdown
Noon -6:30 NFL games

There is more pre game NFL stuff than NFL stuff

I think most people are comparing the NFL to itself. It's just not as entertaining as it once was for whatever reason.

You can't compare NFL and college. Apples and oranges.

And the fact that college is the NFL's farm system is irrelevant to which is more entertaining to someone. They are totally different entities, from the games themselves to everything that surrounds them.

Your gripe is that there's too much pre-game analysis?

Add that to the "dumb reasons to hate the NFL" list.

Except it isn't irrelevant. If the NFL fails or becomes much less popular college football instantly becomes less entertaining as well. That was all I was pointing out. The people celebrating their perceived NFL boycott results aren't really thinking this through

The NFL is becoming harder to watch because the product on the field is being hurt by the new rules. The spirit of protecting the players is a good and noble idea, but the real culprit of this whole thing is the art of tackling.

Players lost the art of the tackle but instead have tried to get "hits". This is evidenced by the missile tackle--where a guy launches his shoulder at a player with the ball in an attempt to jar the ball out or get on ESPN later that evening.

This can all be solved by enforcing proper tackling and ball stripping techniques. Wrap up, try to strip the ball, and don't try to break your neck by diving headfirst into a player's hips.

Also, the stupid illegal contact penalty needs to go. It should not be an automatic first down. Also, the uncatchable ball pass interference determination needs to be made more clear. The referees in the Saints/Giants game let the corners and receivers play physically UNTIL the game was on the line and then they threw a terrible pass interference flag on a deciding play.

Make the NFL great again.

My gripes:
- no one knows what a catch is
- too many penalties

The refs are getting better about throwing flags every time there's a big hit.

ETA: And I would be ok with making PI a 15 yard penalty, not a spot foul.

The crowds in college games seem far, far more lively. As strange as it seems, that makes a difference in my interest level when its two teams with which I don't have a particular affiliation or interest. There's just a sterile feeling about it all that I doubt I'm able to convey here.
I've thought the same thing for years and assumed it was just me.

I haven't really watched much of the NFL for going on 10 years now. I watch my team and that is about it. Now college I can watch most random games. College games are just way more entertaining to me.

It's not like LA hasn't had NFL football on TV.

Additionally, you likely turned off many fans from the St. Louis market that would have previously been accounted, whereas L.A. fans interested in football would have still been watching at this point, having likely found a different team in that period.

unless you are saying that liking college football means you have to like NFL football without exception. . .

Then I am wagering you do not understand the point you are responding to.
